I had the good fortune to travel there last March as a result of sitting thru 1 of those resort presentations. It only paid for a few nights but I took a few extra ones to complete the week. Tips- Buy some of your souvenirs @ Walmart/Kmart by the airport. Be flexible because of changing weather; high winds cancelled some dive trips. Maui has some diverse ecosystems (beach/rain forest/volcano) that's pretty cool. Buy your food @ the local grocery stores to help defer costs. Great public beaches, so you could save money by staying @ economical motels. Look for free activities (snorkeling, Hana road trip, small fee to enter volcano park, whale watching from shore) ...more to follow!
