It is tempting to look ahead, but we will get beat if we lose focus. Anyone remember Central Arkansas last year? Hawaii last year? UNLV has good athletes and is emotional team. They get momentum and we are in trouble.
Dude, quit talking about Central Arkansas and Hawaii. FOCUS on UNLV!
Re: We play UNLV this week
Matt Nelson gets it.
UNLV is all the General can think about
You better believe if Patton is focused on UNLV, the team is.
Re: We play UNLV this week
I had lost focused until I read this thread.
Re: We play UNLV this week
I mean "focus.". See what I mean.
Re: We play UNLV this week
This UNLV dominated that Hawaii team that came into Ruston last year. They are much improved this year but just can't seem to get over the hump. They are looking for a game like this to hang their hats on and boost the programs moral.
If you want to beat this UNLV team step on them early and often and and you'll be able to break their spirit. Letting them stay close could be bad news for us.
If you're into trends UNLV is on a 17 game road losing streak lets down be the one they break it on!
Re: We play UNLV this week
So we are all wearing red and we're playing Central Arkansas in Hawaii. Got it!!! Wait, did I misread the thread?
Re: We play UNLV this week
Our team this year will be ready for this game.
Re: We play UNLV this week
I agree with your premise.
However, it always amuses me that people connect focus of the fans with focus of the team.
The two have NOTHING to do with one another.
I can afford to lose focus. I'm not the one gameplanning. Im not the one who has to go out there and execute.
Re: We play UNLV this week
I agree completely. Our team must be ready for UNLV. I'm glad to see that tweet by Patton. If he is focused on them, you know he is getting the whole team on focusing for UNLV. That man is a livewire leader. That tweet made my day as I'm no longer too worried about the focus issues. Now, can our defense step up.
Re: We play UNLV this week
This is a statement game. No way our players or coaches are overlooking this one! We need to absolutely STOMP them!
Re: We play UNLV this week
I was thinking the same thing Champ. There's a lot of talk about aTm but I believe the team will be focused. They want respect. We need two things this weekend, a big win and get healthy.

A BIG win will propel us into the top 25. It has to be a statement game, though. Defense has to show up big time. 63-14 would be a HUGE statement!
Re: We play UNLV this week
Guys - I really believe the TEAM is so focused on UNLV after their performance last week - they want to make a statement this game. I cannot for one minute believe that our coaches are looking ahead. It did not sound that way on the coaches show yesterday. We just played a very physical and cheap shot team last week, played our worst game so far and still pulled it out. I've had games like this when growing up and believe me I came back the next game with a vengence with somthing to prove. Our D has not thrown in the towel one bit. Improvement is seen every week, I really think that they are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We have a very dedicated team, they know they have something special this year and are working very hard to improve each game. The more pressure WE put on them does what ? The coaches do that already - you suppose ? Fans need to be more encourageable ! We have a very good team played by 18 to 21 year olds don't forget.
Re: We play UNLV this week
UNLV quick stats:
Points for: 91st
Points against: 87th
Their record is 1-4. Their lone win is against AFA, and their other close games were Minn (30-27), and Wash. State (35-27).
The only stat that really jumps out at me from those three games was opponents 3rd down percentage. Opponents in those three games went 15-42 on third down.
This tells me that, while their defense probably isn't good or great, they do play with heart and come up with big stops.
Third down effeciency has also been one of our only offensive blemishes this season. We're 20-50 on the season, if I counted right, with our only good performance being 6 of 9 at home vs Rice. Our worst outing was 3-11 vs Ill.
