Shreveport Med School may close
Re: Shreveport Med School may close
Absolutely.
I feel terrible for all of the college grads who have planned out this particular stage in their life around going to Med-School there. Not to mention the tons of jobs that will be lost.
Sad state of affairs...

Just dreaming out loud here.....
Politics has always been one of Dan Reneau's strongest assets as president of Louisiana Tech. If he could somehow swing it so that this school were transferred to Louisiana Tech as a way to keep it open, I would forgive all of his screw-ups in the world of athletics.

We don't have the money to keep it afloat either. $42M is quite a lot of money just to keep it running.
Re: Shreveport Med School may close
You would think with the expansion of healthcare, any type of med schools shouldn't be closing.

Expansion? Not hardly. MDs won't be needed for Obama Care. Obamacare hates docs. Obama Care will require more PAs and Nurses.
Obama Care = Expansion of red tape. We'll need more government workers.
Re: Shreveport Med School may close
The loss of a med school in Shreveport would be the final insult from Bobby Jindal to North Louisiana as a whole. I don't think it will happen, this is a scare tactic to allow one time money.

I can't believe I voted for Piyush. Oh wait....I think he was unopposed in the last election (not technically, but you know...).
But when you're more involved in national politics and concerning yourself with Benghazi, little things like the decimation of higher education slip through the cracks.
Re: Shreveport Med School may close
Jindal threw us all under the bus for his own ambitions. We will suffer education wise from him for decades!!

Maddawg is correct. Obamacare will put primary care physicians out of work. PA, nurse pracs, and Pakistani doctors will fill those roles instead. The older docs will retire early rather that put up with Obamacare, and other physicians will refuse to accept Obamacare.
This is just a scare tactic. This exact same threat happened this time last year. A deal will be brokered to get the money, and med school tuition will continue to skyrocket. The Shreveport med school will never close down.

You can make it float with NP's and PA's and they are not government employees. They are Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. They can prescribe, but must be supervised by doctors. It is much less expensive and we have implemented this within my organization. We can't use them for telemedicine yet - due to Texas lagging behind on this, but we are using them in abundance for face to face med checks in Psych.

Just what we need. An NP or PA perscribing meds to a Psych patient. Then the excuse will be, "We need more background checks and smaller clips".

Actually, they are very good and very well trained. I like working with them and the docs like and trust them, as well. Which way do you want it? I implemented it to improve quality and save tax money. We can do more with less using them. That is just the way it is and this was WAY before Obamacare.
