IBM To Bring 400 Jobs to Monroe
Dr. Guice was on hand at CenturyLink's headquarters today as Governor Jindal and CenturyLink CEO Glen Post announced another high tech partnership. IBM is bringing 400 direct jobs to Funroe, over the next decade, which should lead to an additional 400 indirect jobs as well. Our 3 area universities will receive additional funding from the state to increase the number of Computer Science graduates to support the need for workers at Big Blue. Construction will begin Fall 2015 on the 100,000 square foot IBM facility across US 165 from CTL's headquarters.
Welcome, IBM, to the I-20 "Silicon Bayou" Corridor.

Good, that will help alleviate the jobs lost at NLU when Jindal makes it a 2 year JUCO again.

If Jindal had the...ahem, wherewithal...to do that he would have done it before now. His MO is survival of the fittest. The eventual outcome may be the same (very doubtful), but think of the money that could have been directed to viable universities if he'd done the right thing when he first started.

Jindal isn't doing anything but cutting funding for all the universities. He won't propose a change any school's mission. ULM isn't going anywhere. It's just more typical Jindal scare tactics so when he finds some more dwindling one-time money to somewhat plug the holes leaving a total disaster for the next governor, everybody is relieved that the cuts only left the schools on life support instead of putting them six feet under.

Nlulm needs a physician to 'heal' them. I suggest they call Dr. Ray Watts of UAB. He knows how to deal with their condition - continuous mediocrity.
His solution at UAB was to KILL the football program. Just imagine what he would do at ULM. The great majority of taxpayers in Louisiana would love him.

Re: IBM To Bring 400 Jobs to Monroe
I don't think ULM is going back to a two year instituion, but its as close as it will ever be right now. Jindal may be putting the full press scare tactics wise on local universities, but I believe he will move to close multiple institutions this time. There was an attempt several years ago with SUNO that failed. This time with $50 oil, he has enough juice to implement a plan to cut. LSUS, SUNO, LSUA, ULM, Nichols St. and Grambling St. all will disappear or recieve deathblows funding wise. The time has come for the Huey P Long Socialist University policy of a chicken in every pot, school in every city to come to an end.

I would like this as well. :D
Re: IBM To Bring 400 Jobs to Monroe
This could be considered repatriation of jobs from overseas. IBM is cutting up to 100k jobs in the US and abroad according to Forbes, though IBM says it is more around 10k.
Re: IBM To Bring 400 Jobs to Monroe
Some of the new IBM jobs are coming from current CTL jobs. I have a friend that has been IBM'd.

So it's not really a gain of 400 jobs? That sucks.

There are only 20 employees in Monroe who are going to IBM. Jindal plainly said in the announcement at CenturyLink that IBM would be bringing in an additional 400 new jobs.
