To Whom It May Concern....
I can't go to many away games a year, but when I do I go for entertainment purposes. It costs a significant amount of time and money to travel. I don't have much discretionary income for entertainment purposes so I have to be extremely selective when it comes to making decisions.
If I was about to go watch a Rolling Stones concert, I'd like to know whether or not Mick Jagger was going to perform before I showed up. If I was going to a MLB game, I'd like to know who's pitching. Before I go to a zoo, I check to make sure the lions and other big cats will be visible for observation. And so on...
I was very disappointed to find out Dixon wouldn't be available for yesterday's game after I had spent alot of time and money to get there. Like I said, I travel to away games for entertainment purposes. LaTech is not nearly as entertaining without our most dynamic playmaker participating. I understand the idea that we ought not release info for competitive purposes. But I think that crap's overrated. We're not going to win a game because the other team spent the whole time rehearsing for Dixon and now they don't know what to do with him not playing. They figure it out on the first play and adjust accordingly.
Ultimately, sports is the entertainment business. Had I found out Dak Prescott wasn't going to play for them, I probably wouldn't have made the trip--just because it would reduce the entertainment value of the product. Now, I go to our home games for a number of reasons beyond entertainment--loyalty, family, commitment, etc.,... But I go to away games for ENTERTAINMENT beyond everything. If there is no intention of playing Dixon, I want to know something about it.
For those say it wasn't in Tech's best interest to release that information, I'll counter: The amount of money that I spent traveling Starkville is money I WOULD HAVE to spend in Ruston. I could invite more friends to our tailgate. I could purchase more tickets. I could buy more gear. And so on...
I feel like I got ripped off yesterday.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
I feel the same. We sacrifice a lot to travel well, and although we don't expect a win every time, we should expect that our team will play to respect that sacrifice. When the team (or coach) gives up because he feels like the game isn't important, that disrespects the effort of the fans.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
Admittedly, I don't know the extent of Dixon's injury (nor is it my business to know). But if the decision was made to preserve Dixon for future competition and holding him out was deemed more discreet in the longrun, I think it's debatable as what could better serve his longterm interests. If he could play and holding him out was merely precautionary, I would find that confounding. KD would be well-served by showcasing his talents on a national stage against Mississippi State. Agents could get a clearer evaluation of his talents in that scenario. Thus, it would be an ideal context to highlight his exceptional abilities.
Again, if he's injured and unable to perform. I get that. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I just want to know before sacrificing hundreds of dollars to travel and watch him and the others play. Dixon is a major component of entertainment.
I thought our team came to play and I am proudly pleased of their efforts! I wore Tech gear to church this morning. This is our team and I gladly identify with them. Thus, it has nothing to do with our players and how they performed. I would merely appreciate the courtesy of our knowing intentions (with regard to who's playing) before the game. It's more of a PR complaint in my mind.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
High ankle sprain. He wasn't going to be full speed and only increased the risk of reinjuring it . Henderson was urinating blood after the last game. Holtz and the Bulldogs didn t mail anything in. I guarantee they lost a little respect for the fans that say they did.

I appreciate the injury update. Just wish I could have factored that in before making the sacrifices to travel. I will be at the game in Ruston this weekend and look forward to it. Also agree our guys played with heart and passion. There is nothing to be ashamed of in that regard.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
We once drove to Arlington to see Nolan Ryan pitch. He threw 7 or 8 pitches and then came out of the game due to injury. I don't think I have had a chance to bring it up since then. Thanks for the thread. :)

Would you have made the trip had you known he wouldn't play at all?

Hard to say in retrospect, but if I knew he was only going to pitch 7 pitches, I probably would have waited for a game where he was going to pitch a no-hitter.

Holtz is the coach not the Bulldog players. He calls the plays...
At the end of the 3rd quarter MSU went up by 3 scores. We were running the ball on 1st downs. After the interception for the last Miss St TD it was obvious Holtz just wanted to get out alive.

That's a different scenario. You're not following what I'm saying.

I thought it was hilarious.

It was coy. But it was a poor comparison. He's talking about predicting an outcome, I'm talking about being privy to pertinent information before making a decision.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
I once went to see the Braves/Cubs and hoped to see Sammy Sosa hit a homerun back in his prime. Sammy's wife cut her hand the night before the game, and he didn't make the trip. I was disappointed. It happens.
Re: To Whom It May Concern....
The point made by Boxer is being brushed off. It's not that difficult to follow.

Good post, boxer. I feel the same way when I stop my world just to WATCH the kind of crap that LA Tech put on TV yesterday. I really don't think this coaching staff gets it. Like it or not, this is Kenneth Dixon's team. HE'S the leader. Without him, it's a totally different team.
