FB Recruits from Mesquite Horn
Watched Tech FB commits Brodrick Calhoun CB and BeeJay Williamson S today in their Texas 6A playoff loss by 10 pts. These are very good defensive players. Horn also has a true stud WR in Maureese Wren who is 6'-3" 210. It would be awesome if Wren were to join the other two at Louisiana Tech in this class; I think he could play immediately for us.

Please send some LBs who are strong enough to tackle one on one.
Re: FB Recruits from Mesquite Horn
Make sure they are fast also!

Speed is no good if they whiff the tackle when they get there. We need STRONG!
Our coach is looking for a speedy HS safety now when he could have a guy like this, but won't offer...

Wren is an Arkansas commit. With Bielema being fired today, maybe he will consider a change.

Of course, it helped that he’s had a strong direct relationship with the man in charge of the program as well.
“I talk to Coach (Bret Bielema) the most,” he said. “Me and him have just been talking ever since they offered and we’ve just been building a closer relationship. He’s a really laid-back guy; he might have a joke here or there, but he’s just a pretty cool coach.”

"EJ Holland" @EJHolland247
Phenomenal play by Maureese Wren (@MaureeseWren9). Gives Mesquite Horn a 24-14 lead over Coppell. #txhsfb pic.twitter.com/qVEF0p6ZK9
Calhoun agrees HD. He tweeted tonight that we at least need to OFFER Wren a scholarship!

Nice. It makes sense. Wren sounds like he loves a "family environment", etc...and he just lost the MAIN reason he was committed to Arkansas. He would probably really like LA Tech's family environment, and of course the certainty of knowing two of his HS teammates will be there to help him transition.
Re: FB Recruits from Mesquite Horn
There are also two LB/DE recruits that committed to UTSA over LA Tech who will be at tomorrow's game. We need to win this game and get 'Louisiana Tech' on the minds of some of these really good players. Early signing day is 25 days away.

I'm the band director at Mesquite Horn. I do like both the commits we have. Teams have generally stayed away from throwing to Broderick's side of the field and gone to BeeJay's without a whole lot of luck. Both guys play with a lot of heart. As for Wren, he tends to short arm when he has been hit a couple of times, but he has a lot of upside. It was a fun year to watch this team play.
Re: FB Recruits from Mesquite Horn
Matt Gadek.... RB from McKinney High..... maybe the next Hunter Lee if given a chance.

I don't think Gadek has any offers.
You know how this goes.....white kid? Runningback? It's some of the same prejudice that Hunter Lee encountered. I think it's absurd.

I asked today! Doesn’t have any. Same response you gave.... white rb, small......Asked coach to compare him to Burkhead.....Said Gadek was special but not equal to Burkhead. Coach I spoke with coached against Burkhead, Lee, and Gadek.

Players like Lee had/have something that can't be measured with stats, speed, etc.. Lee was a football player who made things happen when he touched the ball. It drives me nuts that coaches don't look for (and some don't appreciate) such things.

Patrick Laird, a running back at Cal was a walk-on and due to injuries to the starting running backs now has back-to-back 1,000 yard years. He is a West Coast Hunter Lee and a leader of the team. Oh, his favorite thing to do is reading.
