Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
This is a sport we should always be solid in, but it has always been an afterthought. So many quality volleyball players in Texas and surrounding states.
Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
Probably the only Tech Volleyball thread ever on the board. Our family used to be active supporters of the program. We knew all the players, volunteered for fundraisers, etc. back in the Coach Heather Mazeitis days (2001-07). Very few winning seasons since then. Last five years, Tech has won 11 conference games and lost 57. That's an average of 2.2 conference wins per year. Overall record 42-92. I'm disappointed when any of our athletic programs fail to excel especially one we cared about. Most of you probably have little interest in volleyball but do you think we should save it or focus our energies and resources elsewhere?
Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
Should be made a club sport
Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
I love volleyball and so does my wife. We both work at UT and volleyball is one of the toughest tickets in town to get.
What would we replace the NCAA scholarship opportunities with? I am not opposed to making it a club sport, but reducing the number of scholarship opportunities for the ladies would lead to someone somewhere bringing up legal issues. Also, what's the loss on VB compared to what we would lose on its replacement.
Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
Shift the scholarships to softball
Re: Lady Techster Volleyball
Thats not a bad idea at all, but I thought I read the other day that due to the lawsuits brought against the NCAA that starting in 2025-26 D1 schools have no scholarship limit. Also, every sport can now offer partials as well. They increased roster caps too. I see that driving schools outside the TOP 40 down even more. If D1 football teams were capped at a roster of 85 and now its 105 and they can offer 105 scholarships it just drains the talent pool even more.

It appears it will be a maximum roster size per scholarship sport and you will be able to fully fund every scholarship if you so choose - i.e. NO WALKONS allowed
Football will be 105
Baseball I think will be 34
Basketball 15
etc etc etc

Funnel to other women's sports now that the roster limits have been raised.

Look out Southland we are coming for one of your volleyball coaches...... second assistants.... grad student. They will have to take a slight pay cut from their TA stipend, but this is the opportunity to run their own program!!
