Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Any guesses as to what the real attendance will be at Saturday's game?
Things going against us for attendance:
Holiday weekend / School is out
People out of town
Deer / Duck season
Sock drawer needs sorting...
Apathy.. etc.
My guess maybe 5000 actual in attendance.. (it didn't appear much more than that for last home game)

Is this the lowest Tech football has ever been? Between conference realignment and this years record, I can’t remember feeling more deflated about Tech football.

I can’t remember a worse time. Even in the late part of the JB III years, I had hope. The P5 has crushed any hope of ever being anything more than what we are. As far as attendance, ~3,500 maybe

We've had worse. Trust me. 1979, 1987, 1993. Even Coach Lambright went 3-7 and winless in conference play in his first year in 1967. There was a group pressuring Dr. Taylor to let Lambright go and bring who many of the players wanted after the 66 season, George Doherty.
Like I said, it's been worse. Much worse.

Are those years comparable in terms of the lack of perceived future at the time? Right now I'm struggling to even define what a realistic best case scenario is for us.

In 1993 we were in the Big West and Jerry Stovall was the AD. It was worse than what we're facing now. Heck, the men's basketball program was in free fall at the same time.
In 1987 we had a coach leave and tell the president and AD that there was no way we were going to make it in I-A. At the same time there were political leaders telling our president we shouldn't even attempt to go to I-A. We elevated a position coach to head coach. It was worse than where we are now.
1979 has been discussed here in the past. Our head coach didn't finish the season. It took the head baseball coach to bring the team together.
In early 1967 we had players walk over the choice of a head coach.
Again, we've had things worse than today.
Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
The difference of being bad now versus being bad back then is that forgiveness is a lot harder to come by and making up any ground versus everyone ahead of us is much tougher. Climbing out of this pitiful pit we’re in is going to be really tough and for every year it continues we’re going to be 2 more years further out.
For all those reasons, I think Cumbie has the toughest mountain to climb of all the coaches before him who’d inherited bad times. Most unfortunate right now after what I’ve seen I have my doubts that he’s up to it. That being said I’m very hopeful.
Attendance wise in actual people in the seats not counting any band members there are going to be roughly 2500.

I know it’s been worse, but this is the first time I have felt this apathetic. I was pretty low at the end of JBIII. Pretty low those last 2-3 years of Holtz. But back then I was upset about the lack of success. Now, it didn’t bother me much.

Thanks for the perspective. Feels the worst since I became a fan in 2003.

The '79, '87 and '93 teams would crush this bunch.

As my dad used to say, between 15-20000.

I feel your pain. You can put me in that same boat. I'll always support the Dogs, but we need to see some light in the tunnel somewhere.

It's an oncoming train!

I could use a dose of your dad's enthusiasm about right now, sure many other could too. I would bet we will be much closer to the 15 this week. I am guessing 5,000 to 5,500 actual attendance.
