Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
Is it time for Brooke to go back to the beginning and consider a lesson from Coach Hogg?
As we know Coach Hogg found an excellent partner in Leon Barmore and as we also know he became the actual coach and Sonja became the recruiter for the program.
Even though this will porbably mean putting hubby off the coaching payroll and finding him something else to do.
We know that Coach Hogg and Coach Barmore developed a program that made history
Re: Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
I can't determine whether the problems we face in all sports are made better or worse by WBB's unimportance in the grand scheme.
My thought is that the power disparity is 1) greater and 2) more centralized to a few programs than it is in football. Even if we had lsu's coach (press S to Spit) we don't have lsu's budget, so we can't get lsu's recruits.
So trying to figure out why something isn't working 40 years too late is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
It's not time for Brooke to go back to the beginning, it's time for us to do so.

it’s not that Brooke is not competing with the LSUs. It’s that she isn’t competing with the Middle Tennessees. It’s not time for for her to go back to anything. It’s time for her to go.

On the other hand, do you want the mastermind behind Cumbie and Hester hiring a new coach?

NO THANK YOU!
So if he's really just here as a stepping stone to "greater" things
Then it's past time for him to step up and be gone!
La-la-la-la, La-la-la-la,Good-bye!

Yes, if he will use the same principles that got Josh Taylor hired for softball.
The book for me is still open for Cumbie, but it is closing fast on Hester. Cumbie was at least a P5 top-level assistant/coordinator. Hester has been a journeyman assistant whose biggest item on his resume that influenced the hire appears to be that he previously was at Tech.

Not to derail too much but 1/3 with the 1 being softball is not a fantastic track record.

3 isn't a final number yet, especially for men's basketball with a minimum of 10 games left in the season. Football needs two years for sure given the QB revolving door last year unless injuries are going to be blamed on the head coach.
And even though the softball hire looks like a win, it is really too soon to pass final judgment there too.
Brooke has never coached a team that lost less than 10 games. And she only has two teams in her prior 10 seasons as a head coach that broke 20 wins with 21. Her average record of 17.2-13.7 over her first 10 years with an 0-6 postseason record appears to be what we are going to get from her. Her teams will be good enough to contend, but not good enough to get over the hump.
I'd feel differently about Brooke if this was year 3 or 4, but this is year 7. Time to put up, move on, or be moved on.

Yes. The time for "put up" has passed.
And I wish it were different. It really would have been a great story.
Re: Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
It's time to put WBB in the same category as girls bowling. No way in hades our girls basketball team will ever be "relevant" again.
Somebody needs to tell our leader that Title IX is not a big deal now.

Tech absolutely must be "relevant" to winning conference championships. That is the minimum of what should be expected and what must be demanded for EVERY sport.
Brooke got the team to the brink of that last year, but couldn't get it over the line. There has been some backslide this year, and in year 7 (injuries or not) that just can't happen bringing back basically the same team.
Re: Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
Evidently winning isn’t all that important at Tech with university leaders who fail doing their own jobs as long as those coaches play the suck-up on campus and are good media BS artists. With Holtz setting the standard anyone can get progressively worse and remain employed past their over due termination date. It’s a Tech thing and we can all see it in the works year after year.
Re: Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
In this era of the NCAA
Conference Championships should be the goal for every sport. Regular Season and Tournament.
That should be standard for any HIRE and any Renewal of contracts. Is this coach going to help us compete for conference championships. Year after year.
If the answer is no, then move on.
Re: Time for a lesson from Sonja Hogg?
I've never understood why conference championships are the bar when the only real bar in football is bowling and a top 25 ranking. In basketball and girls basketball it is winning the conference tournament, not winning the conference. In baseball it is winning the conference tournament, not the conference, although in baseball that is usually enough to get a bid.

Three reasons:
1. Because in theory conference championships are something the coach can control year in and year out. It is a realistic and achievable goal.
2. Conference championships usually have a bowl and maybe even top 25 ratings attached to them. (I can guarantee if we aren’t going for the championship there will be neither of these)
3. Post season tournaments right now are lagniappe for G5 schools who win conference tournaments. For the most part the P5s have closed all other avenues sans Baseball right now but it’s coming.
A smart AD at a G5 school has to demand that our coaches are judge on something. Brooke got lucky last year after years of mediocrity. She got an unnecessary contract extension. The AD should have looked at her total record and realized nobody else is hiring her.
