Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Tech defense a no-show, especially in the second quarter. Tech down 10 at halftime.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Defense got to the arena in the 3rd quarter and allowed just 8 points.
46-46 going to the 4th.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Tech offense left early with just 8 in the 4th quarter. 54 points nowhere near enough, but that's been Tech's MO all year.
64-54 UTEP.
This team does not deserve a postseason bid unless the four C-USA teams that will be playing tomorrow all get one first. And maybe not even then.

Man.
Is UTEP just a bad match-up for us this season?

Any team that can pound it inside is because Tech's interior defense is weak. Only was good some in the first quarter and most of the third today. MIA the rest of the game.
Tech outscored in the paint 40-24. That's not a winning formula when you score just 54.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
We need to try something different.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
But we get better as the season goes along and the longer Stoehr is our coach. At this rate, we'll win the championship in the next 25 years!
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
We should try something different. Like a different coach
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Today was frustrating all the way around we played just good enough to lose.
UTSA is gonna be really good moving forward I know they are like 11-18 or something like thar but don't be shocked if they don't win tomorrow against Western Kentucky and if they make the finals they very well could compete and possibly beat MTSU.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Hester is in over his head. He will be a fine assistant for a lot programs, even ones that are more prestigious than little ole tech. We need to find the next Mike white. That dude made Tech basketball exciting

We need a big wide body on the inside and move a player like Roberson to forward. UTEP has that big body and we had no weapons against her. Don't rule UTEP out of winning it all either. They are one of the very few that beat MTSU this year. It was a split and the other game was a 4 point loss, I believe. They are tough, but went through a mid-season slump. We caught them early and late - both times were when they were playing their best. I was hoping that we had the momentum and the revenge factor against them, but it wasn't enough. Bad shots and no answer for a big body inside.
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
It's wbb - top 4 or 5 in conference, keep your nose clean and players graduating and active in the community and I'm fine - especially after the regimes of Spoon and Summitt
Re: Preview: C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals
Those looking for an excuse will point to Roberson missing 9 games. Similar to the men's team, the record without Roberson was more impacted by who Tech played.
Conference record including tournament--12-9, 7-5 with Roberson, 5-4 without
vs 1-4 seeds--2-7, 1-5 with Roberson, 1-2 without
vs 6-11 seeds--10-2, 6-0 with Roberson, 4-2 without
You can make a case that Roberson's absence might have cost Tech two wins against the lower six teams, but that's about it.
I agree with DFM that I want a program that keeps its nose clean and graduates players, but I also want one that more seriously competes for conference championships and gets at least one NCAA bid every 3-4 years. This year's team was not a serious conference championship contender, with or without Roberson. And it continues the plateau that Stoehr's program is stuck in. Tantalizingly close, but just not there.
