I think we will have on of the biggest turnarounds in college football this season. Cumbie got very lucky with an actual D-1 QB falling into his lap. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky instead of good. If his play calling or injuries do not derail the season I see a win improvement of 3-6 games. I beat when Bachmeier quit on Boise last season he never imagined he would have to scrap the bottom of the D-1 barrel so soon. He was expecting to be the starting QB for a power 5 team this season.
Also for all the haters out there Colorado will also see a similar or better increase in wins.

Did anyone watch the Spring game? Impressions, observations, you-as-HC assessment :) ?

I feel like we will be better, I’m just not confident it will be as much as you predict. The one thing that I think helps us more than anything is the schedule. We start off against FIU, and our only P5 game is against Nebraska which is a winnable game. I expect this season to be similar to Dykes second year, a very slow offensive start the first half of the season that begins to get much better by the end of the season.
My biggest concern is defense. Last year we were the least talented defensive team to play in Ruston in many years. It’s hard for me to see how we make that big of a turnaround in one season, but I guess anything is possible.

I don’t meant to beat a dead horse but the defense last year had to have been one of the worst in the history of college football. I don’t know how a defense can be that bad

Thank you! He has had a few months to put something together so hopefully things will improve.
We have a proven QB.
I'll take 7 wins as a HUGE success. In Skip's day that would be cause for a contract extension.
Looking forward to actually attending some games if our president and AD allow tailgating.

Leach and Dykes and those guys tend to say it takes just under 3 seasons for the Air Raid to really get humming. I know it's the portal era and we're working in a new QB and all, but Cumbie is running a version of that offense (so I think you're right).
As everyone else has said, it's the defense that needs a pulse. The 2010 team defense deserves a lot of credit. Power has had some good defenses before, hopefully we'll bounce back on that side of the ball.

Downing just has one year left, right? I guess he really wants another chance to start. Is Turner going to be ok as a back-up? Our QB depth has been an issue for several seasons now. Downing leaving won't help.

I think we have two good Freshman QB's coming in too.

Yeah, that ought to help long-term (if they stick around). I think we really snuck one in under the radar in the kid from Anna.
But for this season (and maybe next year) things are looking a little thin (again). QB is disproportionately going to suffer from the portal (or benefit, I suppose).
