just announced they have canceled the rest of the football season and Coach Brad Laird has resigned.
The school cited the mental health and well-being of its student athletes as the primary reason for its decision after the murder of player Ronnie Caldwell.
NSU was scheduled to play this Saturday at McNeese; it is their homecoming! Hardly fair to McNeese and those alums traveling to Lake Charles for a game.
Don't want to hit this one too hard, given the gravity of the situation, but I suspect being 0-7 played a role in cancelling the season. If they were 7-0...well...
NSU Football has been awful for a long time. Even their Super Bowl beating Skip Holtz doesn’t mean they are a good team.
It has a lot to do with college athletics in general. Football isn’t competitive anymore. The portal, NIL, and ESPN have seen to that. It’s 40ish schools + everyone else.
Being told there is a lot more to this story than what has been released. Stay tuned...

If it was really about the players’ best interests you’d think they’d put it to a players vote. Typical though that the people who think they’re so much smarter than anyone else decide things by themselves for everyone. The whole team will probably transfer out for next season and several will probably end up at Tech.
How does it help the "health and welfare" of the players to make them miss 4 games and shut their program down? That is about ridiculous! So. most will not play after college and had the last 4 games taken away. It makes you wonder if they will even start the program back? Will they have anything to start back up after settling the lawsuits? This can't go well for the school, but even the coach personally.
When parents ask a head coach to handle a situation 3 days before something horrible happened and possibly could have been prevented and apparently nothing was done.
Not a good look.
