Letter from the AD, Cumbie to Return in 2025 - latechsports.com
Re: Letter from the AD, Cumbie to Return in 2025 - latechsports.com
I have serious doubts that Crumbie will have a winning record in his 4th season. Something will happen and it’ll happen again to keep those all important wins just a little out of Tech’s reach. There’s a saying I believe in that goes like this, “who you are speaks so loudly that I can’t hear a word you’re saying.” The translation is that we’ve seen Crumbie’s coaching efforts over 3 seasons and they’re simply not up to being at a consistent winning level. Coming close only counts in horse shoes and hand-grenades.

Any player that is remotely talented will be portal bound in no time as well. Schools will come calling.
Re: Letter from the AD, Cumbie to Return in 2025 - latechsports.com
Why would/should any decent player stay? To what, play for Coach Crummy again?
Crummy is the ONLY coach in Tech football history, all 125 years of it (whatever it is), to start his career with three straight losing seasons. He was just one of three to start with two straight losing seasons, but the other two were fired and never given that third season. Crummy has been given a frickin' fourth season! This is new ground, unprecedented in Tech football history.

I'm still in awe that the administration took the time to write a letter to the "fanbase", whatever remains after their mismanagement, to explain that the bad coach will not be fired. Is that precedented at all?

Ivey and this Athletic Dept. knew there was going to be backlash from their decision but instead of coming out and saying it in front of the media and the fan base which I would've respected a little more. He went and sent out this little letter like we're in grade school. I get it you and Henderson got dealt a horrifically bad hand by Guice and Wood but your making a major mistake by keeping him. Sonny has lost the trust and confidence from the fans that he can build a winning program.

The letter is the oddest thing I’ve ever read.
I’ve never heard of an AD writing a letter of support for a coach he didn’t hire thereby hitching his wagon to the coach who has been an absolute disaster for 3 straight years.
I will be interested to read the interview with Ivey that Matt Bellison is doing today.

I'm in the minority I know, but I think this is our best hope for a winning record in 2025. I'm rooting for the momentum from the end of the season to carry over.

The possibility of 2025 beginning with some momentum is there albeit only slightly. Everyone will know for sure after this years portal effect plays itself out. There’s no better tell all of a coach’s potential than if his players stay to play for him again or if they leave for the potential of greener pastures. So, we shall see what the team says. I’m expecting that Tech will more so be mostly starting from scratch again next season which’ll mean a 4th straight losing season and at long last Crumbie’s 2 years over due canning. He’s proven 3 straight years that’s he doesn’t have what it takes to coach a winning team.
Re: Letter from the AD, Cumbie to Return in 2025 - latechsports.com
Nowhere in Ivey’s letter did I see a measurable goal of what a successful improvement would be. It was just a short list of generalized things to attempt to do that would be next to impossible to provide any improvement to the winning results on the field. If I wrote a list of things such as that it would be to deflect any real scrutiny from whatever happened after the fact. It’s a blah blah letter with no real substance.

Since they are according to Pete Thamel of ESPN looking for an experienced OC the only name for whatever reason that keeps coming into my head is former UNT OC Graham Harrell.

At our level I don't think this is true. Heck, I don't think it's true anywhere.
At least not without some context (that tends to be hard to get). Any player that goes somewhere to make more money was gone whether we were 10-2 or 5-7 and regardless of how much he likes the coach. We just can't compete with a P4 school (and some G6 schools) for money, even leaving out resources/exposure. It's possible that a player making a lateral move is bailing out because of the coach (but how do you tell when it's even someone we wanted to keep?).

I just don't know what they're expecting. Cumbie was brought in because he is supposed to be an offensive guy. He decided he shouldn't even be the offensive play caller at the start of the season. Our offense was abysmal this season. If we keep him as HC but decide to bring in an experienced OC for him to succeed, what exactly is he bringing to the program.
And if, by some miracle, they blow it up and turn into a CUSA powerhouse, Cumbie won't show any loyalty to us, he'll move on to the next better paying job the second he can.

with success, all the coaches at this level move on. Nothing new here. Duh!! What do you suggest at this level. Coaches have always moved on, for better $$ at Tech. Now players do it.

Read it. His answers are bizarre. I’m telling you this is not the guy.
Just like McLelland and “Doctor” Wood weren’t the guys.
I have way bigger issues with Ivey and Henderson than Cumbie.
