Whoa! NMSU has been our daddy in baseball, even though the total all-time games played is just 40. We are 14-26 vs. them and last year, against a good Tech team they whipped us out there. But NMSU has enjoyed a lot of success in Ruston too. I'd be thrilled if we can just win this series.
Go Dawgs!

Yep -
Never have faired well against them
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
Nice coaching move there. Slow the ball to batting practice speed.
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
Burroughs very nearly coached the team to a loss by way of his bad pitching decisions. It wouldn’t be the first time. And then coaching wise they ran the team into a double play being unnecessary greedy running the bases. Hopefully they got those blunders out of their system before the tournament. Of course there’s no point talking about our poor batting with bases loaded because those batters most often don’t come through. It’s how Burroughs ineptly manages things. Tech has the capacity to do well if our coaches will just get out of the way. Come on Dawgs be better than them.

1st out at home plate & 2nd out at 3rd in the same play. That's bad baseball whether it's on the base coach or the player.
Oh well, we got to the magic 30 win number. I suppose if we finish above .500 the season will be considered a success.
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
We've seen pitchers tire, "lose it" but Forsythe's collapse last night borders on bizarre. From total domination to throwing batting practice pitches, as if someone flipped a switch. Teddy Allen actually got something right, almost sounding like a baseball analyst when he observed NMSU hitters jumping on the first pitch since Forsythe was throwing a fast ball down the middle. After Harlan was lifted, and damn glad LB got him out so quickly, our bullpen did a good job: Crider and Nichols.
The double play, Mexico out at home, Ballard out at 3rd was unfortunate. But, first a tip of the hat to NMSU for making the plays, took two really good (perfect?) throws and they executed them. The "oh chit!" side of it was breaking the old baseball adage of "not making the first out at home or 3rd" and we kind of doubled up on that. And, that NMSU pitcher was throwing batting practice, he wasn't fooling any of our hitters, even the previous inning, and we let him, and NMSU, off the hook by running into that double play.
As for the win, I'll take it. Two things: 1) NMSU has owned us in our all-time series (and they just might still win this series), and 2) the truth is this Tech team is very mediocre. Not bad, just not particularly good. So now at 30-22 and winning season locked up, I am hoping for some "gravy." That would be winning this series and pulling a surprise performance in Lynchburg.
Go Dawgs!

If anything I think Forsythe caught some heat exhaustion.

Yes - it was extremely humid last night
Two batters into the 5th and everyone knew he was cooked, pull him right there
Should of 10 run ruled them last night - really bad coaching all the way around
Safford, Hawsey and Mexico were the difference last night along with Luke Nicols' 3 shut down innings

Am I the only one unable to get the game on ESPN+
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
Have not tried.
Just looking at stats. Has our catcher thrown anybody out this season?
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
Oh well, last night was not our night. Today is a new day! (how's this for optimism?)
Go Dawgs!

The biggest surprise is Liberty pulling out a win over Dallas Baptist. I think they just became eligible for the tournament. 8 get in, right? Liberty is now 2 games ahead of MTSU with one game left for both.
Jacksonville is 1 game ahead of us for 4th place. If we win and WKU beats J State, I think we would have the tie-breaker since we won the series against them. Anyone can correct my bad baseball tournament knowledge.
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
Yes, Liberty has secured the 8th and final spot in the tourney. The seeding for us doesn't matter. We don't have what it takes to win the tourney, although we can play spoiler for someone.
But then baseball is a weird sport. In the SLC, for instance, McNeese is out, and the 8th seed UNO is sitting at 2-0 in their tourney. So, all the Dawgs have to do is show up, believe in themselves, and allow the strange "baseball gods" to work their magic. It can happen.
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. New Mexico State Series
anyone know what got the coaches so fired up to escalate that benches-clearing shoving match last night?
