What does the federal government owe me?
The federal government owes me protection from foreign and domestic enemies...that's about it.
The federal government does not owe me a job, healthcare, a stimulus check, an affordable mortgage, an education, or a bailout when I'm upside down on a mortgage I couldn't afford in the first place.
The federal government does not belong in the job creation business, railroad business, prescription medicine business, or my business.

You sound like a Libertarian, not a Republican.

Re: What does the federal government owe me?
They owe you a hotel room if your power goes out, or that is if you are a useless piece of maggott doo doo. The federal government doesn't owe anybody. of course when the wind blows hard, some expect reimbursement for generators they purchased, gas money for evacuating, etc . . .
This country needs an awakening of some sort . . . .
Any ideas, anyone, Buehler?
Re: What does the federal government owe me?
I am already frustrated with the whinner evacuees that are being clothed, transported and housed for free. They will not let them go home- boo hoo hoo. Well- hello, there is no food and you will need it, there is no power.... I saw on TV they even needed donations of new underwear at the shelters- the very first day they were there. Please, if you know you are evacuating, don't you think it would be smart to take clothes, diapers, baby formula, snacks, etc. Yes, I can see they didn't have room for a ton of stuff, but one change of underwear - are you serious!? We have an entire country of people that believe that they are owed something by the government- it is sickening. Of course those are the people wanting a redistribution of wealth- I wonder who they are voting for.

I salute the little grey cells that created this thread topic......
And laud it as a most interesting approach for considering each American citizen INDIVUALLY through the seemingly sinister shadows of ever encroaching federal POWER.
I sincerely hope this thread will not be lost amongst forests of hyperlinks and all the recent potential oval office frenzy. Whether it's sidney or hussein in November...... The ballots will IMNHO become meaningless if CARTEK's most valid query gets trampled upon by lemmings in search of a convenient cliff.
I'll now proceed on the assumption that there can be NO WRONG ANSWERS to CARTEK's question...... Only "me" markers.
I'll start with just 2 for tonight.
1) The federal government OWES ME the protection of EVERY RIGHT described in the Constitution of the United States of America.
2) While respecting CARTEK's opinion...... I do not want any federal protection from ANY "domestic enemies". If state and local law enforcement are unable to solve ANY criminal act in their jurisdiction (from Bonnie and Clyde to the Oklahoma City bombing) SO BE IT!
to be continued......
Re: What does the federal government owe me?
There was an evacuee on the news, and he was in an uproar about how the beds weren't comfortable, and there wasn't hot water. And he said-- "They have had THREE YEARS to prepare for us."
Were we supposed to build the Ritz up here in N. La.? Did I miss the memo? They are the ones who are living in that toilet bowl down there, not me. And I have volunteered my time in relief efforts, but I will NEVER do it again. I have a HUGE problem when efforts go UNAPPRECIATED.
My cousin in Chicago told me that the news up there was portraying N. La. as "heartless towards these poor, displaced citizens." I set her straight, and by the time we got off the phone, she was pi$$ed.

There's nothing to red dot... it's right on.

He gets so mad when I forget to log him out and log myself in.
Anyway, I'm glad that everyone is going back home, and I hope it's a looong time before they grace us with their ungrateful presence again.

Lenin? Mao Tse-Tung? No wait. Barak Obama. :(

He sounds like a CONSERVATIVE, not republican or democratic or libertarian. It's like someond saying I sound like a Baptist or Methodist or take your pick. I say, "I should be sounding like a Christian."
Re: What does the federal government owe me?
IMNHO......
The federal government OWES ME and every other American citizen an APOLOGY!
When our still highly esteemed founding fathers struggled and debated throughout their efforts to decide what was in the BEST INTEREST of our unique embryonic nation, and subsequently penned our constitution...... Is there any HISTORICAL doubt that the issue of STATE'S RIGHTS v. FEDERATION RIGHTS was uppermost in their collective minds, and the first matter of importance on their complicated agendum? And is there any HISTORICAL doubt that these idealistic fellows, TO A MAN, held to the proposition that establishing and protecting and preserving STATE'S RIGHTS, within a balance of power framework, was the KEY solution to their nation building equation?
SO WHAT HAPPENED?
Through what political process have STATE'S RIGHTS been so thoroughly eroded...... And federal POWER so greatly enhanced?
Note: I'd leave it here and wait for some educated dawg imput before proceeding......
But since the dawgs who have visited this thread today prefer to WHINE about a drop in THEIR bucket, rather than intelligently discuss the ACTUAL BUCKET......
I'll go it alone at my preferred pace.
to be continued......

Okay Bob......
You got me. :bigcry:
I noticed your new signature last night and my curiousity caused me to climb to the attic to find my old Latin dictionary in search of aericumbens and anguillis.
I found the "scoundrels" but no aericumbens.
I routinely breakfast with other OLD odd fellows and Warren was there this morning.
Warren is a retired college professor/theologian who prefers his coffee black with sugar and Latin. So I explained my aericumbens mystery. But even Warren was at a loss for this latin adjective.
Ergo...... With my curiousity and Warren's frustration, we both went to the library after breakfast in search of aericumbens. But even the super Latin dictionary at the library could not solve your aericumbens conundrum.
SO......
Would you be so kind as to fill in the blank and tell what manner of scuondrel manned the ship you sail?
Cheers.
