A new blog entry has posted on FromTheBlueSeats.com.
DJ Wright has led his Salt Lake Community College team into the finals against Midland (Tx) College for the Junior College national championship by defeating perennial power and #1 ranked Chipola (Fl.) in the semifinals. IF Salt Lake wins it would be the biggest upset of the tourney if DJ is not named Tourney MVP. [...]http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?hos...ts&ref=&feed=1

Wright, who originally signed with Louisiana Tech but is now considered one of the top freshmen in junior college basketball...
I don't like the way that sounds from the article. If he signed with us doesn't he have to play here unless he wants to sit out a couple of years?

Not sure about this, but I think once enrolls at the JC, all bets are off. Hopefully, the coaches have enough of a relationship with him to keep him in the fold.

That's right. If he can't meet enrollment standards, his signature is no longer binding. He is at a JUCO of Coach Rupp's choosing though. That's gotta count for something.

Yeah, just hope he remembers us when the big boys come calling...
Anyone know if he is there for one or two years?

Since he was not eligible out of high school, he will have to graduate Juco before he can play here. He has to be enrolled for two years before he can play Division 1 ball.

He and Josh Brown both came out and officially recommitted to us before their junior college seasons started. Considering we placed him at Salt Lake for this reason we should be good.

did you see the article in the deseret news in january where he basically said he was excited to be recruited again? that comment scared me a little.

That article was written by the beat writer for Utah. After watching DJ play he's going to slant it to his audience to try to make it seem like Utah has a shot at signing him. He asked loaded questions to get the answers he wanted.
Trust me the commitment has been confirmed since then.

you would know a lot better than me. i just won't be relaxed until he signs. i hope this doesn't turn into another von wafer incident where he blows up and signs with a bigger school.

This should make you feel better.
I just spoke to Coach Condie who has been at the Juco National Tournament all week this week watching DJ.
Now the NCAA rules state that coaches cannot speak to the players at this event unless the player initiates the conversation.
Before the first round game Coach Condie is standing talking with a group of coaches on the baseline including LSU, Tennessee, St. Johns, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Utah State, and Fresno.
DJ walks up to Coach and gives him a hug and says "Coach I'm going to put a show on for you tonight and I can't wait to be a Bulldog".
Condie spoke for all of us when he said "Looking forward to it DJ".

Salt Lake Community College won their first National Championship tonight.
D.J. had an off night shooting but contributed across the board. The team was down 15 points with 12:37 left and went on a 33-11 run to close the game and win 67-60.
D.J. finished with twelve points and 9 rebounds; also had 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
He was voted the UNANIMOUS MVP OF THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT after averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds for the four games that he played in the tournament.
I am very hopeful that his committment to us is firm and that he will sign again with us in November. However, he is going to again get a whole lot of interest from a lot of high major programs.
By the way, SLCC's second best player is Sophomore Nate Bendel, a Utah State signee that we will get to see next year.
Congrats to D.J.!!!!!
