Anybody happen to be watching...
the #1 Kentucky vs. South Carolina game on ESPN? South Carolina leads 62-58 with 43.4 left. My point is that their fans are totally in the game. I believe that they just announced 18,000+ at the game.
It would be nice to see a packed TAC on Saturday!

Yeah, just watched it! What a game. Seeing Downey and Wall go back and forth. Downey, at 5'9" put up 30+ on UK!
I love that kind of atmosphere at mbb home games! I'm hoping to build on the Fresno game and hope we get even more there Saturday!
Ps. I watched Kansas state knock off #1 Texas and not rush to court, and USC knock off UK and act like they won the title. To rush or not to rush...?

It was their first time to ever beat a #1 team... I think that you would see a lot of people on "Karl's court" if we beat them. :icon_wink:
Re: Anybody happen to be watching...
My daughter was there and texted me in the last minutes. Their student involvement is top notch.

That's a new arena I think....
Re: Anybody happen to be watching...
I was there... Just an unbelievable atmosphere last night. You can see me in some of the highlights on ESPN; I'm the one facepalming on the third row of the press seating area when Wall hit the driving layup and got fouled with less than a minute to go. Downey was just incredible, no other way to describe it. He outplayed three guys that are likely first-round picks (Wall, Cousins, Patterson) and he's averaging 30+ in SEC play. If SC had anyone else that could put up any kind of numbers, they'd be a contender in the East.
Supposedly DeMarcus Cousins punched one of our students in the face as he was trying to rush the court (and all of us on press row were just trying to protect ourselves from getting trampled) and the student looked at him and said, "We just beat you guys... You can punch me again if you want, I don't care."
Students were running up to USC's AD after the game trying to hand him dollar bills to help pay the $5,000 fine to the SEC for rushing the court; he smiled and said, "We'll take care of it."
Ever since the Florida game last year when Zam Fredrick hit the layup at the buzzer to stun the Gators, the students have really gotten behind the basketball program. Now if only they'd quit playing that danged "Sandstorm" song so much. I got texts from several friends asking if USC even had a band there or if they had another song to play... kind of like people down here asking me if UT's band knows anything but Rocky Top.

It opened in 2002... Capacity is 18,000, last night was the fourth sellout they've ever had (two of the previous three were last year against Georgia and Tennessee...)
Re: Anybody happen to be watching...
John Wall is still the best college player I've seen in a long, long time.
HD

You must not watch much college basketball. Heck, off the top of my head -- Kevin Durant.

.
The fine was $25,000, as it was a second offense.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Ouch. Next game everybody brings $1.39(18,000 people) and they cover the fine... Must be nice.
Re: Anybody happen to be watching...
I'm still a little confused as to why the fine is $25K. As of midnight last night when someone from our office talked to an official from the SEC, it was only supposed to be $5,000 because it's been more than three years since the last "crowd control incident" (i.e., the last time SC fans stormed the floor). It's 5K for first offense, 25K for second offense and 50K for third and subsequent offenses, but there's supposedly a three-year statute of limitations on that...
Only reason that rule ever happened is because Georgia beat Florida in basketball a few years back and Billy Donovan and Jeremy Foley pitched a hissy fit when the UGA students ran on the court. No other conference has this rule.
I think SC fans would gladly chip in a few bucks to cover it. Hard to imagine there's been a night like that for South Carolina basketball (or SC athletics in general) in a long, long time.... maybe when they beat Clemson in the CWS to advance to the championship game...
Re: Anybody happen to be watching...
Come on, Voldawg. This is the Southeastern Conference . . . Where when it comes to spontaneous celebrations by a college student (or athlete) they try to Stop Ethusiasm Completely.. . . or throw a yellow flag and fine somebody.
