5 muslim US soldiers arrested for plot

They were arrested before Christmas suspected of attempting to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

Yeah, the implication is that we are doing a piss poor job of screening these guys when they enter the service. I think it is way past time to stop being PC and start profiling, especially for the military. Sorry if that is racist, but this crap in our armed services and on our commercial airlines has got to stop.

Is it a coincidence that we had the Fort Hood shooter in Nov, the Christmas day bomber, and the food poison plot all around the same time?

This is what happens when there's too much inclusion and respecting of a different culture... And what happens when people don't do their damn jobs. Gaining clearance for anything but Top Sectet stuff is too easy, and heck, even that's lacked some.

There are definite concerns that many US military recruits are terrorists or aspiring terrorists who join to get the training and/or infiltrate the enemy camp to conduct an attack. This doesn't even count those who join and are radicalized while in uniform, either by other soldiers or via the Internet. I think we'll see more of these types of stories for years to come.

ugh. Profiling time imo.

I believe it should come to that. However, there are soldiers who convert to Islam while in training, and we'd never catch them. I personally saw it back in the early 90's when I joined; kids as white as me from Christian backgrounds who were converted by other Islam converts... and the movie Malcolm X went a long way in helping to convert them. I learned then how weak-minded many people are, so it does not at all surprise me that these folks can be convinced to strap explosives on their torsos and detonate themselves in a crowded market.

But as PC as we are, I am afraid that we'll never really profile recruits due to fear of discrimination lawsuits.

It may not be credible in this particular case, but events like this one--whether true or not--will continue to plague the military.
