I happen to think Trump was waiting to his second term to undertake this "mess." I don't KNOW that for sure, no one, not even his harshest critics, have tried to make that case. None of his supporters who should know, have either. It is just speculation on my part....BUT! I think that was his intention. And waiting till a second term would be motivated by political concerns/reasons. I freely acknowledge that.

That said, I also think (and really mostly KNOW) Trump would have had a very strong plan in place whereby our military would have been authorized to go on seek and destroy missions. The Taliban would NOT have been able to pile into their convoys of silly pickup trucks and invade all those places they have now taken over. The first group that tried would have been toast and the rest would have stayed hidden in their caves. Today, there would be no problems in Kabul or at any other of the major cities and we would be seeing a VERY orderly withdrawal of American civilians and those Afghans who assisted us.

Trump did this very thing in Syria and Iraq when he took office. Mostly he simply stepped aside and allowed our military leaders on the ground to do what they had to to defeat ISIS. Actually, although it would be very messy, more costly in terms of lost military lives and especially civilians, Biden could still order our military to clean up his mess. The Taliban would hide behind human shields, they would indiscriminately attack groups of civilians, and yes, now, there would be a lot of collateral damage. But! after a few days the surviving Taliban would tuck their tails and run. And then we'd be better able to evacuate those needing to get out.

Point is, while I think there would be some "mess" no matter who was POTUS, Trump and others, like Reagan, would have met secretly with our military leaders and set up a plan. Biden is a walking cluster-f - - k.

I still can’t believe that 80 million people voted for a man with moderately advanced dementia. And to all of the people who are wanting him impeached, have you looked at his replacement? She couldn’t run a lemonade stand.
I haven’t commented much on the whole debacle in Afghanistan because honestly, it’s hard to believe that it really happened. How the hell do you just walk off and leave hundreds of millions of dollars of weaponry to be confiscated when you knew ahead of time that you were leaving? You can’t just screw something up that bad on accident. They wanted the Talban to have those weapons. We just need to figure out why

The answer is, 80 million didn't vote for Biden. Count is under 75 million even before you get too deep in the weeds. And Trump's count is over 6 million more than Biden's at not too far from 81 million.

Yes, that chart shows what the US has given the Afghan army over the years as you state, but you are wrong when you say that Trump gave them that.. That chart was from 2003-2016. Trump wasn't even in office when that chart was compiled. So it would be Bush Jr. and Obama that gave the Afghan army all of that stuff.

It's immaterial what Trump could have done, setup, or anything else. Biden is POTUS and screwed it up. Regardless of whatever the Taliban was doing, the last 8 months was more than enough time to plan and implement an orderly withdrawal of everyone we need to get out (civilians, military, and refugees) and destroy equipment. But we did it backwards - pulled military and did nothing else - and this is the price for doing it.

Biden can pass it off on others all he wants. It won't change that he is the one that screwed it up. The buck stops with him (according to him). A lot of his staff and others should be fired over how they handled the intel, the plan, and him.

Absolutely Jubru. Missed or deliberately distorted in all of the back and forth is that almost no one disagrees with the withdrawal. As is the case with math, order of operations is key to getting the right answer.

In all withdrawal order of operations list, complete drawdown of forces is always LAST. It is never FIRST which is what Sleepy (or whoever was thinking or speaking for him that day) ordered.

Biden's handler(s) went against military advice and did this on purpose in order to create unrest. This has been their way of doing business since Obama's bunch stirred them up in Furguson. 2020 was a great year for them.
