Trump knew the truth, but our own intelligence agencies, and those of Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, had at best circumstantial evidence. And the brutal Chicom regime has total control in their country, of the police and the military and local officials, and they went into information lockdown big time! So, early on, to both placate the Chicoms in some HOPE they might agree to cooperate, and to allow our intelligence agencies some time to gather information, Trump played a "ruse" card, telling the world, knowing China was listening, "hey, everything is cool and we trust the Chinese government to handle this." Trump is a "walk softly, but carry a big stick" type diplomat. Don't expect the feeble-minded like the dems, and the lamestream media, and Goosey, to understand how well Trump played the Chicoms. It's beyond their very limited capacity to see outside of their "Orange Man bad" box. KEEP IN MIND...early on the Chicoms were holding the cards. The rest of the world didn't have much to go on. And with WHO bought and paid for by the Chicoms, the one organization you would hope we could rely on for real help was already corrupted.
Be thankful we, and the free world, do have a REAL LEADER!
