I'm sorry.....are we talking about baseball, or men's basketball? Or football? Or the Lady Techsters?
THIS is who we are.

Expected to finish 7th in CUSA, Flailed away in Frisco, one win in the tourney, only 1 returning starter. I know, all excuses, but when we get over our arcing and filling the air with ozone, I appreciate our team and coaches. After all, they are probably as upset as we are, and they sweated for it, and they are DAWGS in red and blue, all expecting to up the results next year.
If you have son (or grandson) on the team, let 'em know I'm proud of 'em.
Meanwhile on the coast, FAU takes down Rice 7-4.
Rice's pitching staff struggled. FAU's coach indicated in the post-game that the Owls would come up with a starter and throw him 4 to 5 innings hopefully before going to the bullpen in the rematch tonight. He was very excited. Win or lose tonight I think he believes his team just earned a berth into the NCAA tournament.
Sorry. I can't take any comfort in how low we were expected to finish, since we utterly collapsed in crunch time. Again. I'm sure we'll hear all offseason about how much we exceeded expectations. Pretty easy when those expectations don't include conference championships or tournament appearances.
Fans had a reason to expect less going in. After the Cali and Frisco trip, it was obvious our defense was as good as last year in most areas, our pitching was better, and our hitting was good enough. It was also obvious that our coach was screwing up regularly. He continued to do that all season.
By the time the dust settles I think Tech is going to end up finishing around 7th, just like the preseason predictions said. The regular season doesn’t count for much... as we proved.
Charlotte beat USM 7-4 with a 3-run walk-off. Game 2 between them is tomorrow.
Now, all four remaining teams (seeds 1, 2, 7, 8) have 1 loss.
In other bad news, NWST won their first ever Southland Tourney, and our coaches sharing their excitement on twitter while we sit at home.
And the Evil Empire is playing for the SEC Tourney title.
The only thing keeping this from worst case scenario is ULL blowing the Belch Tourney on their home field! ULL nearly lost their way into an at-large bid by good scheduling. ULL picked all the right teams to lose to in the regular season to rig their RPI, and it almost worked.
I posted last night that NSU had won the auto-bid, for the first time in school history. Surprised by that given their history of some great coaches, like Wells and the others. Not sure where that post is...
Anyway, NSU finished up 37-22, two games behind us in overall record. And it does point the spotlight directly on Burrows and his on-going failure to get a team into the NCAAs as a HC.
Provided some miracle doesn't happen when the at-large bids go out. Don't hold your breath....
FAU beat Rice 9-8 to advance to the championship game. USM and Charlotte play at 9 this morning to decide the other championship game entry.
If it's USM vs FAU in the title game, both are definitely in the NCAAs. They may be in anyway, if Charlotte manages to steal the auto-bid. Regardless, CUSA won't go deeper than that.
Just saw final, USM 6 Charlotte 0.
So, yeah, both USM and FAU have punched their tickets to the NCAAs, and that'll be it.
