To me, LaTech seems to convey an assumption on the part of the user that Louisiana Tech is widely known enough that LaTech is sufficient for it's identification; and that is a mark of progress.
I agree. Didn't like it at first, but in college sports any identity is better than no identity.

Having lived in West Central Texas for the better part of 20 plus years, I’ve always had to make the distinction. Although, “La Tech” does have a nice ring to it and well received and widely recognized among the well informed here. Obviously around these parts, when you say Tech…for the folks here, there is only one school that comes to mind…the one up in Lubbock! But with that said, I would venture to say that if you left the state of Texas, the Big 12, and the 200 mile radius of Lubbock, you would have to clarify your usage of “Tech.” Outside of the regional connection, the use of “Tech” alone does not have a frame of reference unless that state has a “Tech.” As it is with the state of Louisiana and our Tech. Georgia and it’s Tech. Virginia and it’s Tech, et al. Besides, I have friends that are Virginia Tech Alum that refer to it as Va Tech.
But LFR, I take exception to your use of the “Hillary” simile as a parallel of the use of “La Tech”…especially in the same line! You couldn’t find a better analogy than that? "Come on Man!" :icon_wink: :D

That's pretty much the exact point I was making originally, and I got hammered for it...

I always get hammered for my points of view, and I actually went to Tech.

Well at least I know I'm in good company...:icon_wink:

I wonder if Terry Bradshaw like La Tech. The other day at the Pro Bowl, they were asking him about his days at Tech. At first, the announcer said La Tech, but then quickly said Louisiana Tech. I wonder if ole TB shot him a glance.

I expected to be upbraided about the Hillary remark. Congrats on being the first! I agree about the use and recognition of "Tech." My comments were in regard to the use of LaTech.
Re: Alsander to USL...nope, now LaTech
LA Tech or Louisiana Tech, I don't really care as long as either name is getting us exposure. Kinda like tomato and "tomatoe", they are still the same thing.

I always agree with your point of view of Louisiana TECH. Hell will freeze over before I ever wear or say the alternate. Yes, it will be used, but not by me.:D

Where is TennesseeDawg at? I believe we need a poll on this one...
With me being on the side of those accepting the fact that we are LA Tech to people outside of North LA.

I don't mind having La Tech as our brand. I think it is working. I just can't bring myself to say it.

Because Delta Chi rolls off the tongue better than DX. People do call Kappa Alpha KA's. It's easier to say.
Short-hand names exist when it's easier to say verse the full name.
Kentucky Fried Chicken - KFC
Chevorlet - Chevy
Stolichnaya (vodka) - Stoli
