No disrespect to your Alma Mater, but haven't they only been relevant for the last 5 year or so (the Skip Holtz/Chris Johnson era)?? How can they have so much power??
Re: Big East authorizes "aggressive pursuit" of new schools
BTW the WAC (non-football league) expanded again...
Welcome back Boise State?

Any chance we ever find out how D.R. voted on this one? He gets a pass if he KNOWS FOR CERTAIN we won't be there in 2013.
Re: Big East authorizes "aggressive pursuit" of new schools
If it were me, I would get to 12 with the MWC with USU, NMSU, SJSU, and Idaho and I would go to 12 with CUSA with UTSA, UNT, and LaTech.
Re: Big East authorizes "aggressive pursuit" of new schools
I bet the Big West wouldn't take Boise State and they had to come crawling back to the WAC.

We know Benson is desperate to keep his job even if the WAC ends up non-football. I can't imagine the senior WAC presidents going along with Benson on this vote.

WAC has a presser tonight. Supposedly going to announce it.
I am flabbergasted at the thought of the presidents voting yes on this. We wouldn't (I hope) and the other western schools have to be pretty bitter about Boise leaving to begin with (less of a concern for us).
I can't fathom how this could be good for the WAC. Boise's "other" sports are pretty good, but not that good.

This is what I asked BVDV during a chat session in late October when the news first broke...
Reports have stated that the WAC presidents have voted against allowing Air Force and Boise to park their non-football sports in the WAC. How did our president vote? Do you consider the Boise/AFA move to the Big East a positive or negative relating LaTech's chances of landing in CUSA?
Van De Velde:
There has been some discussion but no vote. Air Force and Boise would have to officially apply, and they have had conversations with Karl Benson, but no formal application has been filed with the conference ... thus no official vote has been taken. There has been no decision by Boise or Air Force to move to the Big East, thus this is hypothetical. It would be really difficult to answer how it would impact us based on the numerous scenarios out there. It could impact us indirectly. It would have more impact if these were CUSA teams leaving. Its just hard to know what type of impact this possible move would have if it occurred.

Some people are just damn lucky.

That's a pretty politic answer, and probably the best answer he could give at the time. But I sure hope there is more to this than just hooking Boise up with a place to park their "other" sports. They aren't worth that.
Re: Big East authorizes "slow burn pursuit" of new schools
Air Force is officially staying put in the MWC...
Re: Big East authorizes "slow burn pursuit" of new schools

The Air Force Falcons were rumored to be one of the next additions to be Big East Conference, but Lt. Gen. Mike Gould told Bryan D. Fischer of The Gazette that Air Force will officially be remaining in the Mountain West Conference going forward. That ends the speculation that the school, along with Navy, could be making a football-only jump to the Big East by 2013.

Green for the Lt. General.
