Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Face book tests my patience with Tech graduates. Maybe there is a reason that I didn't form long lasting relationships with "friends" I attended Tech with. I can't say how many people I was initially glad to come in contact with only to become disappointed. Family is all that matters. Tech family counts!

Am I the only one who thinks Emmy Lou Harris has aged very well?

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I had surgery on my wrist to repair a torn ligament. They just scoped it. I'm looking forward to being able to play golf again. Before the surgery, I was very clear in asking what I was going to have to pay. The surgery center was pretty clear that I would only owe $780. They set it up with three payments of $260. Sweet.
I got a letter in the mail last week. "Total due for services: $26,027." That's the kind of number that will change your day. The letter had my account line by line. It showed two payments of $260 and then three charges of $8,849. I called immediately. The lady who works with my account wasn't there, but I got someone to look at my account. No kidding, here is an actual quote from this conversation, "That's just what we bill. That's not actually what we expect to receive." I asked her if she could confirm I would only owe the $780.
"I think so."
"Aren't you looking at my account?"
"Yes."
"So, is all I owe the $780?"
"I think so."
Think? How can someone who works in billing not know while looking at my account? This same day, I received an "explanation of benefits" from my insurance company. Let me assure you, it was anything but an explanation. The insurance company was billed two charges, one of $5,400 and one of $5,800. Both had a substantial discount. As near as I can tell, the surgery center will only receive about $1,000 total. So I called back and talked to billing again. This time, the "lady who works with my account" was available. She confirmed I would get a "zero balance" letter after I paid the next payment of $260.
It seems to me that they agreed to do the surgery for $780 plus whatever my insurance would be willing to pay. Medical billing is stupid.

Yeah, we are due in May and it has been a total nightmare. Our first child, they allowed us to pay each bill after we got the EOB in the mail. Now they want us to pay out the total of our deductible in installments. They still haven't used all the money from last year and we have a credit at the OBGYN office. They still want us to continue paying them even though they have money they haven't used yet. Crazy!!
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
No wonder people want health care reform. I still don't think giving everyone insurance will fix the problem, but there must be a way to fix the stupidity of billing.
