Reagan was considered a war monger and a loon at this point.

Reagan trailed by double digits before the conventions, 1980. Afterwards, in the debates, he slaughtered Carter. But mostly the country was such a mess people were looking for a change.

This has been one of my (many) frustrations with Trump. He was handed all he needs to win on a silver platter last week by Comey. Does he capitalize? No...he praises Sadam Hussein.
