Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I got a red dot for this post:
"Perhaps he [president obama] thinks a bigger army will come in handy as several States are deciding to exercise the power they were given by the founding fathers, and put their foot down. If he [president obama] were to send in troops to face off against the State’s militias, and good armed citizens, I hope he doesn’t really believe the Federal Force will fight for him and not their homes and families. It is still the United States of America - not the Federal Government of America."
But the red-dotter did not leave his/her name. They just typed "Stupid rhtoric". Every other dot I have ever received had the dotter's name with or without a comment. I have only exercised my God-given dotting rights a few times, but no matter what the color, I always ended with "-chipdog" so they would know who. What is the correct protocall?

Well played. He is great in Dances with Wolves.
And strangely, while I think I "get" The Power and the Glory and I can see why some people really love it, it didn't do too much for me. But The Human Factor, The Quiet American, and the novelization of The Third Man (for that matter, the movie The Third Man) really impressed me.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I've become convinced that having a "comments" section on your webpage is a bad idea. I don't always read them, I would even say I usually don't read them, so maybe I'm working from too small a sample size, but I can't ever remember reading anything of value in the user comments section of any article I've ever read.
Once in a while you'll get a correction, but I don't see why that couldn't be handled with an email to the writer or editor.

True enough. I should probably re-word my original comment to something along the lines of "I've become convinced that reading the "comments" section on a webpage is a waste of time or worse."

Yeah, once I discovered the mouse-over comments I divorced myself from "random" and started at cartoon #1 and have been viewing them in order. I'm in the low 400s now. I've printed quite a few and will start rotating them on my office door. WAAYYY too many of these hit VERY close to home. I've also learned a lot, as I wikipedia any reference I don't understand.

The Dixie Youth rules are screwy, but THE worst rule is the rule that forces a runner to slide at home when there is a play at the plate. Whether or not there is a play at the plate is a judgement call by the ump. Umps are VERY inconsistant with this call.
I'm sure it was put iin place in the name of safety, but if they really wanted to be safe, they'd move the mound back and get rid of the hot bats.

When I was playing Dixie Youth baseball, the catcher on my team broke his leg when a baserunner slid into home. Bone was sticking out through his baseball pants. Will never forget it.

I figure some league director's boney arse son got taken out at home by a full grown 12 year old at some point so they changed the rule to make the runner slide. Stupid rule! Your story above proves sliding is no safer than standing up sometimes.

As 3B coach, I warned an 8YO 3Bman about hogging third base when he didn't have the ball during a play.
He found out the next pitch when Cayden came around from 2nd going to home and blew him over.
Umpire then reminded him not to hog third base when he's not in the play.:icon_wink:
