Yeah, that's what I meant by my wow! Such a tough business, but it has to be even tougher with golf's recent falling out of favor as a sport. Plus Dicks and Academy have a nice selection and decent prices.
None of the golfing chains made it over here around Monroe. Cajun Made has been successful, but I figure only because the owner runs it himself, knows a lot of golfers, and has fairly low overhead.

Didn't we have one at one time on Park Avenue about where the salon is now? Didn't last long if I recall.

think you are correct, though I believe they had some non-golf items as well. I'm not sure one would consider it a straight up golf shop. But I don't remember it very well.

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I think it had clothes and accessories mostly. Not necessarily clubs and equipment. Maybe fancy golf balls, towels. Whatever it was, it didn't last very long.

That's a shame, I liked 3 docs. I hope they at least still have the tap selections 3 docs did.
The name Pulse just says to me it's Q-nasty version 2.0.

Is it too much to ask for a dive bar in Ruston to stay open for more than a few months?

It's difficult when no one chooses to partake. 3docs stayed open way longer than it should have. One of the 3 docs dumped tons of cash into it to keep it open so long with no return.

At the risk of offending all of Ruston :D either its old Baptists who don't want it at all or young urbans who want glowstick parties.
I (partly) kid. It would be nice though. I love the atmosphere at Enochs in Monroe (+ $3 draft on Mondays is hard to beat).

The college students didn't go. 3docs intent was to cater to the young post-college worker who enjoyed hanging out with other adults and quality beer with variety...not college students trying to cram as many cheap beers as possible into their $20 allowance. I'm not sure the market was big enough for that kind of target. The most disappointing thing for me to hear was how hard they tried with live music with no response. People just didn't care.
It's hard to find a good gig around here these days. No one will pay the price for a full band...which typically rules me out unless I play for free...and that ain't happenin'. My price is goin' up, not down.

Back in the day we had dive bars at the Cheniere exit. There are still three on Hwy 80 at Cheniere. Cheniere Shack also has live music on weekends. No need to drive all the way to Enochs.

They keep winning awards for them in Delta Style, etc. They're pretty good and I think people vote for it because of goodwill towards Enochs in general.

They are open. Was forced to eat there this week (I'm transitioning into a slim and sexy beast). It was quite good.

Really good burgers. Get the St Patrick's (comes with avocado) and add bacon, or the County Mamou if you're adventurous. That one is a burger, diced shrimp, provolone, and a tomato based sauce. Best pint of Guinness in the area too. Tuesdays are 2-for-1 burgers, but get there early. They get packed really fast.
I live on Roselawn, so I'm there pretty frequently.

I visited a walmart marketplace in Denton to get an understanding of the hype...and it was a Walmart, albeit better (read: cleaner and better laid out) than the ones in Ruston Monroe and WM. I'm apparently missing out on the hype.

The hype for Monroe was that the SuperWalmart was so crime-ridden it was basically a slice of Detroit. The new one was a fresh (no pun intended) start. But we'll see how long that lasts.
I would appreciate (as would many other students, I imagine) a Walmart that wasn't on the other side of the interstate. Convenience is king.

I can see that. When I look at a propert map, I am struggling to see where they will find property close to campus to locate one...but I'm sure they will find something.

I was told it would be located on West California in the vacant lot next to family dollar/taco bell. If there's validity behind this, it makes perfect sense. It's near campus.

My personal opinion...it doesn't. And placing one on California where the old shopping center was will play out as a big mistake. If anything, they should try to locate it by Brister's --> easier interstate access than the superstore, still convenient to Tech students, and much better access to better paying clientele (that's not profiling, it's reality...there is a large population of middle class families and college students living just north of the interstate on that exit.) Or, find a spot to purchase between Tech and downtown maybe.
I guess Walmart is trying to get away from all the stigmas of the superstores and going with the current trend.
From an article:
"Though convenience and price top the list of most important features, consumers are also discerning about the quality and variety of foods available at the grocery store. According to the PwC survey, most shoppers would pay more for organic foods (64% of respondents), non-genetically modified foods (52%of respondents) and have an interest in ethnic foods (70% of respondents said they eat ethnic food 6 or more times per month). Furthermore, consumers believe grocery stores are a part of their community: 90% of respondents think stores should give back to their neighborhood. This is why PwC concluded that “taking actions like community service, sustainable business practices, and carrying locally sourced products can make a difference in how shoppers perceive you and how frequently they come back.”
Superstores are very impersonal. Neighborhood Markets sound quite personal and inviting. The ironic thing is that those mom and pop neighborhood markets were put out of business decades ago by walmart.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
It isn't another "whole" Walmart. The Wal-Mart Markets are only the grocery side of Wal-Mart -- not the typical Wal-Mart fare. They're putting the grocery stores in the communities to compete with other grocery stores. The Markets are easier to access, but I found their selection to be lacking and the prices higher than the "regular" Wal-Mart Supercenter.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
The Wal-Mart Market store will be located as close as possible to existing mainline grocery stores.

I understand what it is. The walmart supercenter will still sell groceries (I presume) so therefore there will be 2 Wal Mart grocery stores(+ County Market & Super 1), Ruston is too small to need that many grocery stores.

The new convenience center (owned by one of our friends from Church) across the street does not have state access other than the current Burger King entrance. Therefore, they had to get approval from the Parish and the parish engineer (Tech grad) did an impact study.
As I mentioned the eventual plans are to 5 lane Cypress to Avant. Some of the "big thinkers" involved believe the DQ cluster may speed up that project.
MD, I am the owner of the DQ Grill and Chill in West Monroe, I was told by the state that the five lane was going to be done asap but they weren't sure when that was going to be. I paid for the State Troopers to direct traffic for the first seven days then I paid for the OPSO for the next seven days. I thought it would help with traffic issues, and it did. We are still busy but it would be nice to have it with five lanes.
I hope to have one in North Monroe and Ruston soon.

They basically build you the building, hand you the keys, and when you are tired of running it hand the keys back. It's a unique situation but it has been very successful.

Traffic patterns will certainly change. The change will be an increase. The increase will be caused by the additional lanes.
More lanes always, invariably, inevitably create traffic congestion. It's called induced demand.
Adding lanes has never, ever reduced congestion anywhere, and it wont magically start working on West Monroe when its never worked anywhere.

You are welcome! I do what I can for Tech through all of my businesses. We are trying to figure out now what the best way to advertise for Tech football. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Sometimes I think it is best to just donate the money instead of advertising. LOL.

What's with that Mobile station on the corner? That would be ideal. Seems like the pumps were open without the rest at one time. Now it looks deserted. I guess they're, whoever that is, waiting to get a billion dollars for that corner lot.

A soon-to-be retired Tech professor bought it for his daughter. It didn't work. *shocking* It would cost a ton to remove the gas tanks and get an environmentally clean bill of health. Paying for that and tearing down the existing structure isn't likely something the current owner will look to afford in order to sell the property...so if you want it, you better want it bad.
