Anything less than the above is truly a poor attempt to belittle LA Tech. :icon_wink:
and yet you still barely get 25,000 to a football game...??? As great as you guys are at everything, I don't understand......

thanks Russdawg, just because I may get in a dig or 2 doesnt mean that I dont respect the way you support your school....every board has some flamers that want to start a bunch or crap, i'm not that guy

Well, if you were in town you didn't tune into the local news stations--all of whom were emphatically stating that the rain would clear out before kick-off. Either way, like I said, I have no problem with ULM or any of their fans. My issue is with the I-Bowl because I live here and think they did the locals a major disservice. And the locals responded by not going to that lousy match-up of a bowl game!

This "you only get 25k to games" has really got to stop! Where the hell do you want people to come from? The population is 22k and the area population is about 60k -- and that's a big stretch! Where are all of these "fans" supposed to come from week in and week out? We get nearly 50% of the local population to attend games.... No one else does more with less than Tech.
Prime example: last year, when we played AT NEVADA and they were on track to win the WAC championship, 11,000 fans showed up. Reno's population is 225,000. The Reno metro area has over 400,000.
So spare us the "only 25k fans" bull.

Right on! I always enjoy games in Shreveport. Well I USED TOO. This I-Bowl failure didn't do anything for Shreveport now or in the future. Those idiots have had plenty of opportunities to embrace Tech and always, always, screw us. Proves to me, sans the loyal Tech supporters there, the whole city couldn't care less. No reason for me ever to patronize anything in that town again....
:) I know there's nothing new in my post but I just had to!

Yes-- the list of sports failure in Shreveport-Bossier is legendary --too long to list. I am GRADUALLY going to get over the I-bowl fiasco and when I do I will remember all the great times I had at I-bowl over the years and get back on board--but right now the wounds are too deep --about the only event worth supporting over here and allowing this years committee to destroy it seems wrong. They really do not get it!! Boise bowl survived on Boise- Poinsetts survived on San Diego State- Hawaii bowl on Hawaii etc etc--Tech and I-bowl should and could have been mutually beneficial. Almost every bowl shoots for a state team for attendance and out of state for hotels and ratings. my unsolicited advice to I-bowl is FIX IT

wasnt Lincoln parish dry back then?? i seem to remember a few bars on the parish line
Re: Email from Missy Setters
Somewhere about '73 or '74, the Louisiana supreme court ruled that localities could not be dry only by tradition or historical means. i.e., there had to be a vote to go dry. As part of the same ruling, they ruled you could not ban beer sales below a certain alcohol percentage. (Really only affected Michelob sales). So by default, Ruston became completely wet until a vote was held to ban liquor sales. (took about six months as I recall.) Grambling voted to stay wet. So hard liquor sales moved from Cheniere exit (Moon's and Frank&Mary's) to Ruston to Grambling. Stowes opened as a bar and stayed open after the liquor ban selling beer only.

I supported the I Bowl for 20 years until 1998 I think--the year Tech was 9 and 2 and LSU played Notre Dame for a
rematch vs playing Tech. The only tickets I have bought since then were in 2008 and bought 8 tickets. I had been
buying 10 tickets that were chairbacks before I stopped in 1998. I would only buy if Tech was selected to play
