Secondary tie-ins
Bowl has the option the first year - after that it goes to the other conference on a rotating basis
I think that is how it works
Re: 2014-15 Bowl Chatter and Predictions
We need to play Colorado State no matter what, please please please. I need some semblance of relevant smack talk here in the mile high...just doesn't work the same 1,000 miles away.

But the area around the stadium was not so nice.I went to see a Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks basketball game at Hirsch earlier this year and the area around the stadium is still pretty depressing.
The area around the Cotton Bowl stadium is a dump too. Are you going to boycott the HOD bowl? I would argue that the area where Martin Luther King Rd crosses Malcom X street --about 500 yards directly in front of Cotton Bowl Stadium-- will make Shreveport's "Fair Park" area look like a 5-star Carribean resort.
Many "Bowl game" stadiums --save for those on college campuses (e.g., the Military Bowl in Ft Worth)-- are in dumpy areas. Ever been to the Orange bowl? The Rose Bowl? Heck, New Orleans? Even the University of Southern California is located in a very rough part of town called "south LA". But that's no reason to boycott these bowl games, or USC. Just toughen up a bit and support 'em anyway.

From a recruiting standpoint the I-Bowl is good fit-- bussiness is bussiness -- it also the bowl that would attack the most Tech students and alumn. Before I get slammed, I am pulling a Dr Spock here --just speaking logically. I am flying to OD game, if we play Marshal, I will fly to that game and whatever bowl we play I will fly to it. Reality is I am old fart and can do that but most folks have a life and other obligations - Shreveport and Dallas best for fan base--- take it easy on me when you start slamming this post
I just posted something very similar to your post on another thread. Suffice it to say, LA Tech fans need to be smarter. The I-Bowl offers LA Tech a P5 opponent in a nationally televised game that can literally be attended by 50K LA Tech fans. What other bowl --or sporting venue, or city-- offers that kind of exposure within 70 miles of our home campus? Since some folks can't see the big picture, I'll go ahead and answer that question for you: NONE!!!!
The I-Bowl game is smack in the heart of LA Tech's recruiting country. Like it or not, LA Tech needs the I-Bowl to be successful. It behooves us to strengthen our relationship with the I-Bowl committee. As Dogsince65 says, "business is business". And this is good business.

Think Big Picture. Both LA Tech and the I-Bowl have already tried that "cut off your nose to spite your face" thing. It didn't work so well for either party in 2012.

Unless the city of Memphis cleaned things up, you can add the Liberty Bowl to that list as well!

....and that's my point. Very few (if any) of these bowl game sites are in luxurious, high rent areas. (I'm guessing the "Boca Raton Bowl" is though, HAHA!)

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena dumpy? You're thinking of the coliseum across from USC

Agree 100%, Plus it is going to be the Saturday after Christmas at 3:30 on ABC, what better time slot could we ask for.

Got to put BVDV and Missy's BS behind us and work for Tech's best interest.
Quit making sense, dang it.
So I should hold my nose and vote for Missy? There are some EXCELLENT people on the I Bowl staff I'd LOVE TO SEE US WORK WITH FOR SURE. However. still just seems to me it's like trusting Jerry Sandusky with your kids since he's the most available babysitter. I got about an hour to decide.
Re: 2014-15 Bowl Chatter and Predictions
We need to play in the Ibowl for one reason only. I will be in St. Lucia on the beach and I am not sure they get ESPN on the island. Needs to be on ABC just to be sure. All kidding aside.
If Tech finishes with 8, 9 or god forbid 10 wins, the Ibowl will be begging to have Tech attend. The crowd would be huge. If we win 10, Tech gets to chose its bowl. Does Tech chose HOD or Ibowl?

I'd like to think we'd pick the I-Bowl. I get the impression our administration really is trying to mend the relationship.
Re: 2014-15 Bowl Chatter and Predictions
While it seems that most of us are holding some much warranted grudges against the I-Bowl and others are giving logical reasons why the I-Bowl should be embraced we may be overlooking what the bowls are suppose to be. They should be an award and something to look forward to and get excited about for the players. How exciting would it be for the players to know this is what you're playing for, a trip to Shreveport? How much of a recruiting tool would it be selling the I-Bowl to Tx.-La.-Miss kids?

Playing at 2 PM on ABC against a P-5 team in a packed stadium might be exciting for the players... just a thought

I-Bowl vs. Pitt in front of a large crowd (YOUR Crowd) or Bahamas in front of nobody v. C Michigan
