I just told someone from Chicago that my week has been "fair to middlin." To her credit, she just rolled with it despite having no idea what I was saying. Cross-cultural communication skills are important in my line of work.

I don't mind tipping at a buffet restaurant that has servers who check up on customers during the meal. I DO NOT believe in tipping at a place that does not have servers who come around after the bill has been paid.

maybe my response belongs on the peeve thread, but what's up with a tip line showing up on every credit card receipt i have to sign? am i supposed to tip the checker who punched my order into the cash register?

It is easier to have one ticket type than having employees have to pay attention and choose the "right" ticket.
The part I hate about it is the look of disgust when I leave $0.00 as the tip as if I'm stealing from them because the at entitled to be given something.

Anyone know who to call if a railroad spike has worked its way up at the crossing by railroad park in Ruston. Someone is going to kill a tire there.

There is an art to selecting oranges at the grocery store. My technique is getting better and better.

Why do people want big crawfish? The amount of meat in the tail of a very big crawfish is not much more than in a smaller crawfish. Those smaller crawfish have a much higher count per pound than the large ones.

And the bigger ones seem to have less flavor to me.

i would bet the big ones have nearly twice the meat of the typical-sized ones. if they are no more than twice the weight, then advantage: big ones. the lower count means you get the same amount of meat with less work. i will agree, however, that they seem to absorb less flavor from the boil -- not sure why that happens.
