Used to be so easy to get a Tech transcript. Fax a one-page form to the registrar and it was mailed anywhere for free. Now you have to spend 20 minutes filling out several pages of an online form and pay an external contractor $10.00.

It still is if you are sending to another university.

Damn, even when we upgrade our systems we downgrade.
Myself for still not getting my foot in the door anywhere.
The clock, cause it can't roll near fast enough getting to 6:00 on Saturday.
running through my neighborhood on the night before heavy trash day (i could have stopped with the first word of this sentence, but i'm trying to be positive). running along, bathing in the aroma of someone's gardenia or jasmine, only to be suddenly engulfed in the smell of their week-old shrimp shells and banana peels.
Ticketmaster not allowing me to pick my seat.
Just do like that one woman did at the last game when she walked up and asked me if the seat next to me was taken. It was my wife's and had her stuff by it as well as one of our personal stadium chairs (not the generic ones from Tech). I think she was looking for several next to each other.
Tech's Pepsi contract. Pepsi refuses to change their restocking schedule to meet the needs of students. Machines are always out.
Arriving at the doctors office extremely early, seeing an empty waiting area, and still not getting called back before your scheduled time.
it's fewer. not less.
les distance; fewer miles.
The condition of the Louisiana flag in front of the TAC is horrendous. The right wing and part of the banner is missing. Whole flag faded. It needs to be replaced yesteryear.
American flag needs replacing, too.
Pathological liars.
People being sociable in a very clearly non-sociable environment.
Nose hairs again, but this time mine.
New math.
Let's completely abandon common sense like teaching a math problem using numbers then pictures. It is way more productive to teach them something like.......
Please write a story that illustrates the doubles + 2 problem 5+7=12.
Answer: 5 baseballs + 5 footballs= 10 balls, so 5 baseballs + 7 footballs = 12 balls
Yes, the math makes sense to a 33 year old, but the question was asked of a 6 year old 1st grader.
I'm right their with you. The questions don't make since to a 38 year old with a degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics) from Louisiana Tech University!!! I have to read the question several times before guessing what they want!
My 1st grader got points taken off his homework because he did not draw "links" to show 7+6. He just wrote 13!
Believe it or not, they were experimenting with new math in the early sixties. It didn't work then either. My sister and brother, both of whom are very intelligent and now successful people didn't do well in math in school. They are great at it now. I have an aptitude for math and got it, but I can't say it helped me learn the subject. 7+6 = 13. Why make that harder than it needs to be?
I recently got to see some of how Montessori teaches math to lower elementary students. Very logical. Very straight forward. And the rest of the curriculum was the same way. If I had young kids now, I'd have to consider going that route. But being a tuition situation, I know a lot of young families could have a tough time finding the money.
It is almost parental malpractice to send your kid to public school now.
I know there are a few exceptions, but still.
When WBB threads get stuck on top of the "new threads" page and I'm forced to click on them in order to get them off the page.:o
How old and outdated every single computer system on campus is. Not only is this embarrassing, its unacceptable. It's deceptive, unsecure, and detrimental to the universities ability to function properly.
Every computer is outdated the day after you buy it. Heck I am still using a 19 year old computer with Windows 98 for one application which is a 16 bit dos program. I thought students had their own by now. Just need secure WiFi in all the class rooms and housing.
Im talking about the systems that run the university. The WiFi is still pretty bad on campus, but we're running systems from 40 years. Job security if you ask me: "No, sir, we don't need to replace these ancient computers that only I know how to fix."
We're not talking about slightly old servers. We're talking about ancient, sluggish servers from another millennium that are only still here because of stubbornness and ignorance. We shouldn't bill ourselves as a paragon of cyber-anything when we're still using Dual-ROLM systems and a mainframe from 2000.
Quote:
Louisiana Tech University uses the SunGard SCT IA Plus 2000 Student Information System (SIS). Installed during AY 1998-1999 on an IBM mainframe platform, it went fully operational during the Fall Quarter 1999 (AY 1999-2000). Only the Plus SIS module is installed and operational.
The BOSS system is embarrassingly slow and decrepit, and has to be taken offline once a day so we can manually print screenshots and store a physical backup.Quote:
Louisiana Tech University maintains a legacy system database of student academic records on the same IBM mainframe platform that date back to the mid 1970’s when records were first computerized.
Old technology is fine as long as it works and looks decent. Ours is neither.
I agree that is embarrassing.
The day advertisements are outlawed on pain of death will be a great day.
Advertising Christmas before Thanksgiving. I probably mention this each year.
It starts before Halloweem now.
Fake twitter accounts and the people that retweet them
The internet has KILLED reading comprehension. No age demographic is unaffected.
I normally skip over anything that requires me to watch something.
We *have* to find some way to teach our students the right way to sing the Alma Mater.
Guess y'all are talking about the Baby part?
I really enjoy being half way through the crosswalk entering a shopping establishment and dodging cars while drivers talk on the phone. Life size FROGGER.
Noise
You're right maddawg.. Most don't even acknoledge that you've stopped (even though it's required by law if pedestrians are present). I try to cross the crosswalk quickly to not hold up the traffic anymore than I have to.
I also try and hold doors open for people but I do tend to say "you're welcome" under my breath when I'm completely ignored by the person I've held the door open for!
I went to Burke's in RUSTON today and as soon as I entered I saw a Lsu themed CHRISTmas tree with a table full of lsu crap and just to the left a Lsu section with all the lsu merchandise you want. Made me wonder if the owner is from down south. How disrespectful to Tech, you would think they would have ONE piece of Tech gear. It took all I could muster to go ahead and spend money there. I'm not planning to return.
People who forget how to drive as soon as rain starts falling.
I would have over-filled two shopping carts with everything other than lsu crap and then when I got to the check-out stand, I would say, "gosh I actually only came in to buy a Tech cap, but since I was here I thought I'd get all this stuff too - where are the Tech caps anyway?" Then when they said they didn't have any, I would say, "oh then I can't patronize you business." And walked out.
McClelland called us a mid-major again. And I got my blood pressure up arguing with some little smit on Twitter about it (I think it was the same kid that tried to sue Tech a while back over butthurt).
Mid-major = non p-5 who is not Sun Belt.
Even G5 is somewhat subjective ("power" according to whom? the vandy powerhouse?). I meant to say Autonomous/non-Autonomous above, since that's the only codified distinction. Autonomous conferences have way more power in setting rules for themselves whereas the non-A are still under the thumb of the broader NCAA.
That's a semantic distinction though, even though I don't prefer it it doesn't piss me off like "mid-major" does.
I was just joking. Trying to poke a little fun at the Belch.
All of the "spoofed" telephone numbers that show up on my caller ID. Yesterday I got a call from my own phone number. Caller ID is becoming useless.
Senseless acts of evil.
Willful ignorance.
I really hate not being able to bring video up for screenshots or clips. Media is so damn dumb today.
People who put up wall paper without painting or priming the sheet rock first.
Every time Obama opens his mouth.
As you get older, as you all will see, there are two things that grow. Your nose and your ears. Actually that's three, but you get what I mean. My peeve is......why not something else! I mean, some of us can use a little boost of ego before we check out!;)
Selective coloring effect. ;)
The inexorable march of time. Having turned 60 this year I have become more keenly aware of how fast time passes. But I have picked up a greater appreciation for Dawgs that are older then me. It takes grit to get old. Bark on Ol Dawgs! I feel ya!
Trying to spend about $3000 on a new computer and getting some car maintenance and other things done and NO ONE wants my business. I hate this area so much sometimes.
There are several local computer peeps in the area. ASUS is a great deal IMO, but I'm certainly not a computer geek.
Car Maintenance - I've used ABC Auto Repair several times for my Tech kiddos. They have been very fair and reasonable. I have an aversion to "being booked" at a repair shop (when they look at a book to see what to charge). ABC has never done this to me. 318-251-0196
When your shirt sleeve gets hung on an door handle as you walk by. Perfectly good shirt is unwearable now.
First and last time time I'll ever listen. I didn't realize he had a show then. I listened to Aaron and Nick this morning instead of Fletch cuz I was curious about the spin they were putting on the JUCO mess. Then Waldrop came on talking about how C-USA and the Sunbelt are "low DI conferences" like the SWAC. I couldn't make up that kind of ignorance.
