3) Who would the opponent be in the Indy bowl? If it's Ohio or a MAC team, I'm not interested. If it's an ACC or SEC team, I'm very interested!!
The payout does not matter. All payouts go to C-USA, which pays expenses for bowl game. Then the rest is distributed to the conference.

Bigger payout makes bigger distribution.

If we are in I-Bowl - that means C-USA had surplus teams.

And the question was about other bowl payouts.

Isn't it nice to be discussing bowl options?

It is. Great to be in a conference with a lot of bowl options.
It's a long shot, but I'm really hoping we somehow end up in Fort Worth.

Glad you noted it but I want to stress that payout is irrelevant for the most part to us. Payout goes to the conference to distribute. If C-USA fills all bowl slots then they already know how much money they are getting. It doesn't matter what bowl we go to.
Also secondary agreements do not have the same caliber of payday as the primary agreement. So disregard the I Bowls payout. C-USA would never see that.

The I-Bowl offers LA Tech a P5 opponent in a nationally televised game that can literally be attended by 50K LA Tech fans. What other bowl --or sporting venue, or city-- offers that kind of exposure within 70 miles of our home campus? Since some folks can't see the big picture, I'll go ahead and answer that question for you: NONE!!!!
The I-Bowl game is smack in the heart of LA Tech's recruiting country. Like it or not, LA Tech needs the I-Bowl to be successful. It behooves us to strengthen our relationship with the I-Bowl committee. As Dogsince65 says, "business is business". And this is good business.
I just think its time for Tech to expand its horizons. It's time to give the HOD bowl a shot and it's also located in our recruiting territory.
We've already tried to build a relationship with the I-Bowl and they've crapped on us multiple times. Now, they do not have a monopoly on where we can play. Used to be, we played in the I-Bowl or stayed home. No more. We have CUSA and the HOD which is directly affiliated with CUSA. The I-Bowl will always think they're better than us and our conference and will never tie-in with our conference. For that reason alone, I feel we should choose the HOD bowl.
Why can't Louisiana Tech be the reason that the HOD bowl is successful. 30K Tech fans in the HOD bowl would make them salivate to invite us every year they can. Rice would not bring 2k to that game. Actually, Tech needs the HOD bowl to be successful, as long as it has the CUSA tie-in.
You're right, we need to look at the big picture and it should have the HOD bowl with its CUSA tie-in right smack in the middle of it. The big pic should not look at our potential matchup and tv time this year, it should think about different scenarios in the coming years.
Next year, we may go 6-6. The I-Bowl will not take us, but, the HOD bowl (with its CUSA tie-in) will if we bring tens of thousands of fans.
It's time to turn our back on the high school sweet heart that keeps breaking our heart and look down the road to a more stable relationship, one that has already begun with the Dallas game last year and the CUSA tie-in.

We learned all this years ago as a WAC member. I suppose only bowling every 5 years will cause our fans to forget the facts.

C-USA chooses where everyone except the champion plays. They take into account school/bowl preferences.
C-USA has a secondary agreement with I-Bowl, therefore neither can turn their backs on each other
Re: 2014-15 Bowl Chatter and Predictions
We should bring BVDV in as a consultant. Do the same people who wanted to keep him around all those years agree?

At this point in 2012 we were discussing the Orange Bowl.
Re: 2014-15 Bowl Chatter and Predictions
For the betterment of the program and for the future, we need to play and beat a P5 no matter where they are. Play up period.
