He should never be kept anywhere that doesn't have a fenced in yard with surveillance cameras.
Just for the record, we lost a previous Tech when he escaped from the student handler's residence, ran in the heat and died of heat stroke.
surveillance cameras is a bit extreme. I understand the reaction to want his care and security improved. I think there are plenty of families that could care for him that can't afford surveillance equipment. Shouldn't need it really if he is only out in a fenced yard long enough to relieve himself.
I wouldn't be surprised if before you know it, PETA starts snooping around and asking questions.
This New Orleans news source is saying that LA Tech is saying that Tech XX was STOLEN! Don't know what their source is, not a lot of information on this link...

I want to say a few things:
1. I believe that Dr. Sexton has done a wonderful job taking care of Tech XX. I am sure he and his family are devastated this has happened. I know they never dreamed anything like this would ever happen. I know Dr. Sexton is a caring and good man. Tech XX has lived with them for four years and has been treated better than some people are treated. Tech slept with his son every night. I know that young man is distraught and the whole family regrets this with every fiber of their being. Dr. Sexton has provided care, food shelter and love for this dog like it was his own and at his own expense - not the University's.
2. But the fact is that Tech XX does not belong to the Sexton's. Tech XX and all our live mascots belong to The University. It represents our University. It embodies the Legacy of the Bulldog, the ideals our University stands for and all the things that are good about our University. The University needs to step up with the care and well being of our mascot. It's wonderful that families have volunteered over the years with the care of our mascot, but the University needs to step up and make sure this dog that is the spirit of Tech is guarded and protected for its entire life. It is our icon, our symbol our mascot and it stands for something. He belongs to us all. He represents us all. He should be cared for by us all.
3. An inside dog should never be allowed outside unsupervised. You can do it and you can get away with it and nothing may ever happen. But it's the one time the dog does something you don't anticipate out of a thousand times, it's the one time someone drives by that has never driven by before and the dog is gone forever. An outside dog is one thing, but an inside dog accustomed to air conditioning and soft beds and the comforts of an inside dog should never be allowed outside unsupervised, unleashed or without the safety of a fence. I just don't believe in it and I think it's wrong. You wouldn't take your eyes off your child for five minutes or ten minutes and an inside dog is like a child.
4. This dog has never met a stranger. He is taken among crowds and petted and loved on by hundreds of strangers at events all year. Clients come in Dr. Sexton's office and see him and love him and pet him. I believe he was taken and he would have gone with them. He didn't know better and that made it easy.
5. A person that would steal a dog is just one step up from scum that would steal a child.
6. All we can do now is pray for his safety, that he is being treated well and that whoever has him sees their way to bringing him back. I am praying LT home. I'm also praying for Dr. Sexton and his family. I've been pretty pissed off and upset about this but I am trying to think about how I would feel if I were in their place and also I'm trying to pray for the foolish person who let him out and didn't keep an eye on him. Dr. Sexton has treated Tech XX like a valued and loved pet and I thank him and his family for that. I wish it hadn't happened, but it has and now I'm trying to feel what they must be feeling now. Regret, remorse, sorrow, sadness and all the other feelings that come when you lose something or someone you love.
I just pray that Tech XX comes home to all of us safe and sound. We all should.
Tech XX made the nightly news in Houston channel 13 ABC news.
Very well said, Dawgmatic! I am praying for the return of LT, and the sooner, the better!!!
Say the supposed kidnapper doesn't have the resources or know-how to try to, God forbid, sell/move Tech XX across state lines. Would it be feasible to alert all vet clinics in a x-mile area to check on bulldogs recently checked into their facilities? Anyone have the slightest idea how common the detectors for the chips in dog collars are?
Has there been an Amber alert? Is his face on milk cartons?
