Curious as to your opinion on what the record would be with Dykes still at the helm? I think we almost certainly beat Tulane and Kansas but I am not confident we would have defeated Army. So would everyone be relatively happy if we were 3-2?
Probably be more at ease...
Heading into conference we would probably be fairly confident we could pick up 3 to 4 more wins and be bowl eligible at 6-6 or 7-5 in a total rebuilding year
We also know we would of scored more than 16 pts against Army and anything can happen in a shoot-out
May have been able to keep Dykes if we would have coughed up another million per year (and perhaps a retention bonus of something north of $500k).
I do not believe Tulane, Kansas or Army would have stayed on the field with us if Dykes were here. There is no way our offense would be so inept, and our defense has improved (I think).
^^^This!!! Great post. We could have hired just about ANYBODY and not expect to start winning for 3 or 4 years. What's so special about that? We hired Holtz because he supposed to be such a hot shot. Holtz sold himself as a "GOOD coach" to LA Tech. I ain't seeing it. As my dad would say, "he ain't even pretty good".
No. Have you seen what his assistants are making at Cal? Dykes and Franklin are partners. Dykes doesn't do anthing w/out checking with Franklin first. We never had a chance of keeping Dykes or Franklin even after we let them sucker us out of the raise he got before the Poinsettia Bowl.
If y'all remember correctly, Dykes / Franklin only had 1 season with a good offense (last year).
Yes, winning was definately secondary to showcasing "The System".
