Not much longer than the age of the dog dude. If they wanted that dog (offspring of XXI) they waited for it.

Do we know for sure if this is truly the offspring of XXI or just a write up lie to cover up the long wait? They haven't been transparent.
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Agreed. Something so easy terribly mishandled. BUT I’m glad we’ve got a live mascot again.
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Or they just decided to keep it quiet until they could announce it.

Or because they dropped the ball on the mascot replacement.

Or they waited until they could just make one announcement and have him ready as the mascot, instead of saying "Hey we got a puppy but he can't come to the games yet."
Why bother announcing it if he isnt cleared for an appearance. You have the dog now, 5 years or until retirement. I feel the last one was recommended for retirement early, and it just threw a wrench in their plans to have one readily available.

Thank goodness a bunch of Greek students voted to have a live mascot in the first place :icon_roll:
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Tech made sure XXII was healthy. Clearly he's not a new born. Yes, he was sired by Tech XXI. It took the time it took. And he's a good looking bulldog!
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Why is the breeder being anonymous? Who is the host family?

"We're sorry it's taking so long, we are getting a legacy from XXI."
That's all it takes. Why the silence?

Why do you still care? The dog is public and the dog is healthy. Under normal circumstances you wouldnt get updates about the next dog being bred, and you wouldnt care. It'd just be introduced when the time came.
XXII was probably already being being set up for introduction this year. If he is a 14 month old pup, XXI retired ~15 months ago, the mother was already pregnant with him when he retired.
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Regarding Tech XXII is the son of XXI, it could be as factious as the story of "The Legend of the Bulldog". Our tech folks have not been very honest and open about the situation.
"He was formally introduced at a small gathering at the Marbury Alumni Center." - who were invited to this small gathering? Why only select folks get to attend?
"He will live with a local family with strong ties to Louisiana Tech." - why are we not naming the family who our mascot will be living with?
"Tech XXII was donated by a Louisiana breeder who wishes to remain anonymous." - anonymous? and we believe this dog is the son of XXI? Also, will this breeder donate some of the earnings back to Tech seeing that Tech XXI is the daddy (says the article).
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Also from the previous announcement "Guice said Jim King, Tech's vice president for student advancement, and the student government association actually coordinated the search."
Coordinated the search??? If he was the offspring of XXI, there's wasn't much of a search.

This is why I still care:

There's just no reason for the lack of transparency. The freaking mascot isn't a secret nuclear code.
