I am concerned about losing our kicker from Longview. He consistently kicked ball into the end zone with no returns possible. Barnes who could not consistently kick it out of end zone and Bruno from Byrd leaving is disappointing. Again, no loyalty anymore. The days of the Boston Scott and others that stayed with the program are Gone with the Wind.
Dakota White (other starting Offensive Tackle w/ Bruno) is entering the portal.
My point is, it is not just at Tech. Is this the landscape of college sports.Changing schools every year unless you are starting at a SEC school that is winning every game. If college players basically only come for a year, the days of bonding with the players are gone. The team standing in front of band as our alma mater is playing-has no meaning now. Oh by the way, the offensive line was a dumpster fire all year as well. Since I went to Byrd, I can say it, their football season did not go well either.
Not just college…
High school as well. As a fellow Byrd alumni, I was a Yellowjacket through and through…now you can be recruited to Calvary or Captain Shreve if you are any good and not have to worry about a district.
Every major city in Louisiana is going to school of choice which basically means all the good football players will end up at one school.
The days of amateur athletics is long gone.
Excellent points. As a teacher in Caddo Parish, I was seeing Byrd with their Magnet Program pouching players from every neighborhood school in town. Before Byrd had a Magnet program their Sports programs were going nowhere. Supporters of Byrd were able to keep the major sports from being offered at Caddo Magnet High. Only soccer, lacrosse etc. The City of Byrd's lobby was that strong. But, Byrd would complain about Evangel being a private school having their advantage. Then Calvary, came along and the drain continued on public schools.

Titanic.
Now we will see just how costly that buyout is.
The empty suit has no spin left on this dumpster fire.
We can all expect that Tech’s offensive and defensive schemes are going to get very simplistic as if they weren’t already. There’s no way to have complex schemes with a revolving door of new players every year. The “high octane” passing game is impossible without players who have rehearsed executing it for years. The players Tech has had and are going to have aren’t smart enough for that kind of playbook. That’s part of the reason why Holtz’s teams got progressively worse. Clever football for lower level teams is going to become something that once was. Like Boise was once when they lead the way with somewhat lesser players against the bigger schools, they outsmarted them. That slight advantage is gone now with the portal shredding teams.
La Tech RB Charvis Thornton (@Charvis_T_22) has entered the transfer portal after playing in 32 games with 135 carries for 734 yards and 4 TDs
How do high school players fit in this "new world order"of transfers? It seems the Group of 5 schools become like Jr. Colleges developing players that move on to the next level. What the heck is Centenary College logic to get back into football with a new stadium no less?
Our mediocre players entering the portal probably don’t get picked up. Do they?
