Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Does anyone know what they are building on the Tech campus where the old College of Business was located?

New parking.
According to Les Guice on facebook:
New housing near Mitchell + Intramural field work.
Prepping Harper and Harris for demo.
Street between Keeny and COBB will be removed to increase green space and add a new sculpture.

YES! We must purge Tech's campus of all Mid-Century buildings!
There was no Cold War, no Boomers, no GI Bill! Tech campus had a New Deal construction rush, then it hibernated until Centennial Plaza! 1940-1990 didnt happen!
The elderly Boomers must erase all evidence of their passing through Tech's campus!
(And 40 years from now the Millennials will be required, as their sad, final act, to demolish all the buildings constructed for them.)

I get what you're saying and I kind of hate the old CAB is gone, but you didn't have to go to too many classes before you realized the building wasn't built very well. Tech wasted money trying to save it a couple of times if memory serves.
I've told the story before of my younger brother being in the CAB lecture hall at the south end one day. They heard a "pop" and watched a crack open up from the ceiling down to the floor on the west wall. The professor watched it happen and said, 'Well, you don't see that everyday' and went on with his lecture.

Nothing wrong is tearing down cheap unfunctional buildings.
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Harper is coming down, but would of been cool if i turned into something like this. Harper dorm is in a primo location (center of campus, next to the student center, short walk to all major educational buildings).

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I wonder if they can make a rule that no building should be built higher than Keeny Hall cupola or the clocktower after Harper and Wyly are gone.
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Also with Harper coming down, they really have a chance to make Centennial Plaza a great outdoor student space. Maybe a small outdoor theatre for events, music or speakers. An extension of the student center from Tolliver could also be built to encircle the the plaza on three sides.
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Does anyone know what new business is going into the Nest behind the other building?

I was gonna check out my 1976 brick and clean out the lettering ruts with some Coca-Cola rinsed with some water, but, alas, the construction fence started with the Class of 1975. My fingers are crossed it'll still be visible.

I see the Tarbutton Road interchange is open. I was really hoping they would change the name. Tarbutton Road sounds like a made up name from a Jerry Clower story. Haaaawwww. Welcome to Hicksville.

Took an electrical engineering machinery class taught by James(?) Tarbutton of Tarbutton Road whilst at Tech. He was missing the end of one finger, and somebody in the class asked him how he lost it. He said he got it cut off in a knife fight at the Cheniere Inn, which everyone thought was really cool. Later, he admitted that the had accidentally cut it off by sticking his hand into the blades of an electric fan.
