TU (Tulsa) hired Bill Blankenship as head coach. Some of you will remember me pushing that name on here a while back...
Re: 2010-2011 Coaching Carousel
any relation to Kyle Blankenship from Byrd that went to Tulsa for bball?
Interesting that this guy's never even been a coordinator.

According to the Chronicle's UH reporter, Tulsa did the hire on the cheap and so they didn't have a lot of great candidates.
I half thought they might simply rehire Kragthorpe.

Kragthorpe resigned from coaching to deal with a serious family illness. Don't think he's ready to get back into the game yet.

I didn't know whether he backed out of A&M for a temporary thing or whether it was something that was going to keep him out for a while. According to ESPN, Tulsa wasn't interested either way.
The more I look at the Blankenship hire, the more I think it might really be a good one. No experience as a coordinator, but if what I am reading is right he really worked wonders at Tulsa Union. That actually matches Art Briles's resume almost to a T. Then again, when we hired Briles there weren't very many quality coaches willing to take us on (after we decimated Dana Dimel's once-promising career). If they weren't (allegedly) doing it on the cheap, they could have really made a splash. But considering that they did go the inexpensive route, they made a good choice.if what

Kragthorpe is an excellent Coordinator or Position coach. Don't know if I'd go after him as a Head Coach though.
I don't know much about Blankenship at all. Interested to see how that pans out.

is this only a Football coaching change "speculation" thread? or could it be for basketball as well?
