April Fools Day
April 1st, 2012
Already up to your ears in loosened saltshaker tops, whoopee cushions and fake news stories? We'll spare you another prank today and give you the straight details. In the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, tricksters have to get their jokes in before noon. Anyone who does so afterward is the April Fool. Boy do they have the right idea because in the US it seems to go on all day.

International Tatting Day
April 1st, 2012
No April fools jokery here: today is a day for making doilies, seriously. Tatting dates back to the early 19th century and is the process of making lace by hand. And doilies are just the beginning. Once you're a tatting expert you can make collars that look like doilies, or pet clothes that look like doilies, or a shawl that looks like a doily. The sky's the limit.

National One Cent Day
April 1st, 2012
If giving someone your two cents is giving them your advice, then is giving someone one cent like giving them your half-baked ideas? Pretty good deal if you ask us. Not much else one cent can buy you.

Children's Book Day
April 2nd, 2012
Kids get to have all the fun. We grown-ups are stuck with books that are just chock full o' words. Big ones. It's exhausting, really. So today take a break from the 1000 page novel that's been collecting dust on your nightstand for the past eight months and pick up one of your childhood favorites instead.

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day
April 2nd, 2012
One of the best qualities of the PBJ is that it's totally portable, and tastes even better when it's been kind of squished in the bottom of a backpack all day. Try that with a tuna melt.

World Autism Day
April 2nd, 2012
The United Nations declared this day to bring together autism organizations around the world in an effort to increase awareness and understanding of this condition. Autism affects 1 in 110 children and government statistics indicate an increase in autism diagnoses every year.

Do you work at the circus? Are you a professional ice cream taster? Do you design costumes for kittens? No? Congratulations! You get the day off. Hope this makes up for the rest of the year.

National Tweed Day
April 3rd, 2012
At prestigious universities across New England, tweed jackets are actually doled out to professors as uniforms. Okay, not really, but you'd think so by the looks of things around campus. So why not throw on a little tweed and see if it doesn't make you feel smarter.
