Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
When I saw that TNS and Ethan Conley would be doing a three part series on "the growing concerns of head injuries", I wondered how TNS would take care of Tabby and nlulm with equal space...
-Day one she wrote a gripping story on nlulm baseball stocking up on catchers.
-Day two she wrote a story on two yankee jucos battling it out for one spot on the
baseball team.
Day three should be a dandy...

I'm a geek. No doubt about it. So, I've just finished watching the first half of Doctor Who's Series 6 for about the 100th time. Anyway, in the first episode The Impossible Astronaut in the middle of Utah, there is a diner that has a LSU football helmet. I just caught it for the first time and all I could wonder was how did it get there? Pretty sad when they can even make it into something like Doctor Who.

Because a local radio personality has been advertising Mellow Joy coffee I decided to try it. I've opened many a can or bag of Community, Folgers, Maxwell House, etc., but this Mellow Joy coffee had a HORRIBLE odor. My wife asked me where I had gotten that stinking mess. It was tolerable to drink, but the before brew odor is more than I can take.

LSU about spoils everything...
Yes, they are cool and creepy. But the Silence is worse, imo. The Angels don't kill, but the Silence does.
You really need to hurry and watch it - it only takes 6 hours, give or take a few minutes. The second half of the series 6 starts in 18 days!

the angels DO kill in season 5, but that's not what makes them creepy. and the concept is cool enough to make physics nerds endure all of the impossible self-reference loops designed to make them cringe.

I've been having the same Angels vs. Silence debate lately. I like the Angels a lot, but the Silence are just flat out scary.
Can't wait for the new episodes. Crossing my fingers for the return of the Super Daleks.
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
There is a lot of debate among all Whovians about the Angels vs. Silence thing. Both would scare the hell out of me if they were real, so I really hold them on equal footing.
The Daleks should be returning, either as the "super" (rainbow) daleks or "traditional" daleks, for the 50th anniversary next series (I'm guessing). Moffat said he wanted to give them a rest because they have had their rear kicked a number of times since the rebooted series started:
Series 1
Dalek - one self-destruct
The Parting of Ways - all killed by Rose
Series 2
Doomsday - all sucked into the void except 1
Series 3
Evolution of the Daleks - 3 killed, 1 escape
Series 4
Journey's End - all killed by the human Doctor
Series 5
Victory of the Daleks - inferior ones killed, "super" (rainbow) Daleks leave
The Big Bang - one is restored because of the Pandorica's light, then killed by River Song
Essentially, you can cause the mass genocide of the Daleks so many times before it just gets old and boring. But, it would absolutely stupid to not include them in the 50th anniversary.

I've only recently gotten into it, but here's what I've gathered:
The Doctor is of an humanoid/alien race called the Timelords. He skips around all of time and creation with a companion or companions in the TARDIS, a time machine that looks like a payphone booth on the outside, but is ridiculously huge on the inside. The Doctor and companion(s) basically go all through different periods of time to save worlds, civilizations, people (sometimes themselves), defeat enemies, and just go on really awesome adventures. I've likened it to Back To The Future meets Terminator meets Star Trek. The most recent reboot is funny as hell, great dialogue, normally spectacular writing, mostly good acting, sometimes scary, sometimes sad, and always thought-provoking.
Do a google image search for Karen Gillan, or Amy Pond (her character in the show). Only reason you really need to start watching.

That a very basic understanding of it. Doctor Who is way more detailed, but you can always pick it up and usually know what is happening and has happened.

Plus, people generally enjoy the series and Doctor they "grew up" with. I'm fortunate enough that there was no Doctor Who (outside novels and one relatively crappy movie) between 1989 and 2005, so I don't get to have that bias.

I'm convinced there are people who will always argue about the height of an athlete.
Ever notice that most of those who always disagree are short folks and they never argue about the weight?
Isham listed as 6ft.. Who cares if he is 5'11" or 5'10"? If he was listed as 5'10" the same folks would say, "No way this guy is 5'10". I'm 5'10" (actually 5'6" with lifts) and we look (saw him once across the room) eye to eye."

Hopefully no adjusters will be hearing anything. I don't guess the lady denied my version, since the cops looked at my truck and told me I was good to go if I wanted.
I guess her engine died and then maybe her brakes aren't good or she panicked when she started rolling back. I honked the horn, but she just kind of waved her hands like there was nothing she could do.
Absolutely no damage to my truck (the plate is a little dented, but I'm hoping for the Tech plates for my birthday anyway). It isn't like she had much chance to gain momentum. Her car just coasted to a stop (and naturally I was stopped behind her and trying to figure out how I was going to get around her) and then slowly rolled backwards.

It was okay. 4/5 stars for me. Had some good one-liners, great dialogue at times, and awesome throw backs from previous years, but the overall story was flat to me; not to mention some of the more unbelievable aspects even for DW, pretty much the whole opening.
But, I absolutely loved the ending. Sucks that it's the Ponds last season next season, and worse that the season isn't coming until the fall! I'm just hoping Moffet doesn't kill them off since it's supposed to be "heartbreaking". He better explain why Rory keeps dying before their gone though.

i never used to think of geckos as pests until now. i just cleaned out my storage shed for the first time in 5 years, and there was a well-established nest of geckos among some old boxes of ceramic tile in the corner. their poo was everywhere and the whole shed smelled like guano. still, among all the junk i pulled out i only found one spider and one cockroach, so maybe geckos are a pest worth keeping around.

Agreed, the ending was awesome. I rolled my eyes a couple times earlier in the episode, though. I hate that it's the Ponds' last season too, but that's the nature of DW. I guess Doctors and companions alike are supposed to come and go like that. I doubt Moffat kills them. That would be lazy writing on his part, and he's not really known for that.
