National Tell A Story Day
April 27th, 2012
Some of us are natural storytellers. Some of us seem to get stuck listening to a lot of long-winded stories. Whatever your take, telling stories is an important part of the human experience. If you're stumped for a story to tell today, let us help set one up for you. It starts with a trip to the grocery store and it ends with a stolen helicopter and a talking dog. You fill in the middle. And' go!
Arbor Day
April 27th, 2012
If we're going to cut down a bunch of trees to make houses and printer paper and matchsticks and whatnot, we're going to have to start planting a few more. This is the idea behind Arbor Day, an annual holiday for planting trees. The first Arbor Day was observed in 1872 with an estimated 1 million trees planted. Cubicle Day
April 28th, 2012
If spending your day in a cube is starting to make you feel, well, boxed in then take today to change the perception of your four walls. In nature, four represents a balance; there are four seasons and four elements --earth, wind, fire and water. If that doesn't work, think of all the awesome stuff that's cube-shaped, like building blocks and' ice. And if that still doesn't work, just remember you only have to be in your cubicle for a portion of your day, then you can return to your rectangular home and sit on your circular couch. What, do you don't have a circular couch?
National Kiss-Your-Mate Day
April 28th, 2012
Have you kissed your mate today? You have? Oh cool. How was it? Whoops, we know it's none of our business. Sorry to be so nosey. It's just we're big enthusiasts for the smooch effect. Studies have suggested that regularly kissing your mate decreases stress, increases relationship satisfaction, and reduces cholesterol levels. So pucker up!
Zipper Day
April 29th, 2012
Simpler than the snap and more trusted than Velcro, the zipper beats the button any day. Unless the slider gets stuck on some fabric on the way up, the zipper is the fastest clothing and luggage fastener in the west! The zipper beat out the button in the 1937 'Battle of the Fly' when designers went crazy for the newest innovation in men's trousers. Esquire magazine predicted the zipper would reduce the incidence of accidentally leaving one's fly open, but as years of jeans wearing have revealed, there's no invention that can save us from making that mistake.
Hairstyle Appreciation Day
April 30th, 2012
Think of how dull the world would be if we all had matching standard issue haircuts. Hairstyles give us one more way to express ourselves with colors, cuts, curls, waves, braids, spikes and streaks. So if you spot a killer hairdo today, shoot the person below it a wink and a nod. Even if you're just checking out your own reflection.
National Honesty Day
April 30th, 2012
We've all heard that honesty is the best policy, so save your lies for another day. And if your first thought upon reading that sentence is to think of situations in which dishonesty triumphs, then may we remind you of another popular idiom: liar, liar, pants on fire.
