National Lumpy Rug Day
May 3rd, 2012
Every time you pass through the room you step over that lump in the rug. Don't you think it's time to look underneath and see what's causing the lump? Or maybe you're afraid to find out. Fair enough. Just toss the rug and get yourself a new one. That's what lumpy rug day is all about.

World Press Freedom Day
May 3rd, 2012
This holiday was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as a day to remember the importance and existence of freedom of the press. Each year on this day, UNESCO awards the Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize to someone who's made a contribution to the defense or promotion of freedom of the press. The award was named for a Columbian journalist who was assassinated for his brave reporting on local drug cartels.

Romor has it that the tooth brush was invented in La Salle Parish. That is why it is called TOOTH brush instead of teeth brush.

International Firefighters Day
May 4th, 2012
May 4th is the day of Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, and this is one saint that has his work cut out for him. Every day firefighters put their lives at risk to save our communities and our forests. International Firefighters Day came into existence because of a petition circulated in Australia in 1999 following the deaths of five firefighters in a wild fire. Show your support for this holiday by wearing the signature red and blue ribbon that serves as a symbol of International Firefighters Day.

National Candied Orange Peel Day
May 4th, 2012
Have you ever peeled yourself an orange, looked down at the pile of peels and thought, 'Gee, what a waste'? No? Well some people look at it that way and they've found the perfect solution for those bitter rinds. Candied orange peels are made by placing peels in heated sugar syrup. Over days or even months, the peels become preserved and then you have a whole new snack to try.
Re: If you want a thread to die
While sitting here for the noon announcement, I thought I'd throw out some quotes from my favorite movies. Some are obscure and some everyone knows by heart. I could have put 20-30 quotes from each movie, but I decided on just one (that's really hard to do).
I like movies that are mindless entertainment. I don't care about character development or complicated stuff like that. It's an escape for two hours. Give me action, laughing and/or boobies and it's Oscar worthy for me.
These are are in no particular order, just some of my favorites:
"You can't go! All the plants are gonna die!"
"How about a Fresca?"
"Greg, honey, is it supposed to be this soft?"
"Why aren't we flying? Because getting there is half the fun. You know that!"
"Burn some dust here. Eat my rubber."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!"
"220, 221. Whatever it takes."
"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"
"Relax, would you? We have seventy dollars and a pair of girls underpants. We're safe as kittens."

National Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you!
May 4 is called Star Wars Day because of the popularity of a common pun spoken on this day. Since the phrase "May the Force be with you" is a famous quote often spoken in the Star Wars films, fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you" on this day. Current day Star Wars fans were not the first to introduce the line "May the fourth be with you": when Margaret Thatcher was elected Britain's first female Prime Minister on May 4, 1979, her party placed an advertisement in The London Evening News that said "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations." This reading of the line has also been recorded in the UK Parliament's Hansard.

Re: If you want a thread to die
On May 4, 1493 the Spanish-born Pope Alexander VI decreed in the bull Inter caetera that all lands west and south of a pole-to-pole line 100 leagues west and south of any of the islands of the Azores or the Cape Verde Islands should belong to Spain, although territory under Christian rule as of Christmas 1492 would remain untouched. The bull did not mention Portugal or its lands, so Portugal couldn't claim newly discovered lands even if they were east of the line.
