No matter how interesting you may find something to be that is printed on the front of a lady's T-shirt, it's not a good idea to take a close up picture of it with your iPhone.
Cinco de Mayo
May 5th, 2012
Some of us will take any excuse to drink tequila on a weeknight, but we should pause to properly recognize this important date in Mexican history. On this day in 1862, Mexico defeated the bigger, better-equipped French army in the Battle of Puebla. Cinco de Mayo is actually not widely celebrated in Mexico, but it's a big deal in the United States as it's a chance to party in the name of Mexican-American pride. Okay, history lesson's over. Order another round.
Oyster Day
May 5th, 2012
There are the oysters that we eat and there are the oysters that make pearls. And nary the two shall meet. So if you're looking to score the makings of a cheap necklace from your collection of $1 oyster shooters at happy hour, it's time to come up with another plan.
Memorable events on May 5th:
1821: Napoleon died.
1934: The first Three Stooges short film was released.
1961: Alan Shepard became the first American to travel into outer space.
1973: Secretariat wins the Kentucky Derby.
2012: Tech fans woke up and realize that Louisiana Tech is still moving to CUSA in 2013.
National Tourist Appreciation Day
May 6th, 2012
Look, citizens of exciting places, we understand that an influx of tourists can really clog up your sidewalks, crowd your beaches, and take all your good parking spaces. But those picture-snapping, goofy hat-wearing out-of-towners don't mean you any harm. They came to admire the fantastic city you call home. And lucky you, you get to be in a vacation destination year round. So if you see a tourist on your way to work, give them a high five, offer some directions, or suggest they check out your favorite restaurant. Actually, forget about that last thing we said. You have to save something for the locals!
No Diet Day
May 6th, 2012
So bathing suit season is fast approaching, and to prepare you've thrown yourself into your usual pre-summer dieting frenzy. Depending how far along you are, you might be daydreaming about cupcakes or drinking hot water with lemon and calling it 'lunch.' Well it's time to put an end to all this stress --at least for today --and indulge your cravings. Have some pizza for lunch instead. You remember pizza, don't you? Chase it down with a few cookies and a milkshake. Trust us, you'll thank us tomorrow' when you're back to coconut water and carrot sticks.
30 years ago, we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs.
Today, we have no Jobs, no cash, and no Hope.
- I'd like to credit whomever first uttered this statement, but I don't rememeber where it came from. Just found it as I was clearing our a file.
This one is an original:
Epitaph to Fred
Fred was alive but now, he is dead;
walked the earth but now lies instead.
His life we're told was mostly in bed,
other than that not much is read.
One day, we did hear, he was wed,
of the brief bond, however, not much was said.
He came upon money, our belief was led,
but truth be known, his balance was red,
So is the legacy of that man named Fred.
Dead,
nothing moreto be said.
