National Buttermilk Biscuit Day
May 14th, 2012
Who needs fancy pastries? Americans have been enjoying biscuits since the early 1800s when they were discovered to be a delicious alternative to breads made with yeast, which was expensive and hard to store. They're flakey, buttery pastry pucks that support honey, gravy, sausages, gravy and sausages, or the wobbly leg of a breakfast table. This morning, start your day off right with a solid breakfast featuring buttermilk biscuits.

National Dance Like A Chicken Day
May 14th, 2012
Why wait for a wedding reception or bar mitzvah? You can do the chicken dance any time you please. How bout today? And here's a little fact to cluck about next time you're in the company of fellow chicken dancers: the song we all know as 'The Chicken Dance,' was actually written by a Swiss composer who called it 'Der Ententanz' or 'The Duck Dance.' Is that quacky or what?

I haven't been on line in last 2 days. I didn't have much work for about 2 months. Now have more than I can do. But, that is a good thing.

Police Officer's Memorial Day
May 15th, 2012
We all feel safer knowing that the men and women of the police force are looking out for us. So today take some time to think of those who lost their lives while protecting our communities.

Straw Hat Day
May 15th, 2012
Everyone knows the major rules of fashion: no white after Labor Day, no sandals with socks, and no straw hats before May 15th. So if you've been eagerly holding onto your straw hat, waiting for the moment to show it off, then now is your moment in the sun' literally, because straw hats are good for blocking your precious face from the sun's harmful rays. Felt hat lovers, you'll have to wait patiently for your turn. Felt Hat Day isn't until September 15.

Love a Tree Day
May 16th, 2012
Pick a tree, any tree. If you're lucky, you have plenty around you to choose from. Some tips for loving your tree today: 1) Make friends with the critters that also love that tree, like birds and chipmunks. We suggest bringing some food to share. 2) If you're planning to spend a lot of time with your tree, bring something to read. Trees are known for a lot of things, but good conversation isn't one of them. And we don't want you to get bored. 3) Ensure the tree is on your property or public property. Nothing ruins a good Love A Tree Day like trespassing charges.

National Sea Monkey Day
May 16th, 2012
Did you know that sea monkeys breathe through their feet? Follow up question: did you know that sea monkeys have feet? As any former sea monkey parent will tell you, raising a batch of these little guys was a lot like keeping a tank of pond water in your bedroom. In fact, it was exactly like that. But hey, it gave us something to do for a week and, in a way, they were kinda cute.

National Wear ..... For Peace Day
May 16th, 2012
..... is such a peaceful color. Twilight skies, violets' grape soda. How could anyone fight when there's so much purple in the world? It's also believed the purpose of today's holiday is to welcome aliens to earth because --guess what-- they apparently like .... too. So whether your pacifist goals are intergalactic or earthbound, all we are saying is give .... a chance.

National Cherry Cobbler Day
May 17th, 2012
Cobblers may be your first choice for a delicious dessert, but the first cobblers were actually improvised, thrown together alternatives to early settlers' favorite recipes, using whatever supplies were available -- like the native cherry. And, honestly, who hasn't messed up one baking project and tried to pass it off as another? 'I call it' cup o' cake.' It's estimated that two thirds of modern day cherry cobblers are just cherry pies that went awry.

National Pack Rat Day
May 17th, 2012
Attics and basements were meant for storing old junk. But a pack rat asks, 'Why stop there? If we park the cars in the driveway we can also fill up the garage. And while we're at it, let's just live on the back deck and then we can use the whole house for storage.' Some may criticize the pack rat for living a life of clutter, but the pack rat lives by the motto 'waste not, want not.' And who knows, some of that stuff might be worth a lot of money some day' if they can ever part with it.
