Definitely a downer. I can say I've NEVER failed to attend a Tech game because of weather. Never will, love being hardcore for the Dawgs!!

I'm disappointed as well, but we should think about the people in South Louisiana that will be hardest hit and even killed by this storm. We have players from these areas that are worried about their homes and families. A&M as well. There will be a lot of rescue and humanitarian aid flowing South in a few days.
I don't think BVD made this decision on his own.
disappointed yes, really upset, no. I think it is great for us. True that A&M will have more time to get their ducks in a row by that time. However, they will be in the heart of their conference schedule by then. We don't know what A&M has for sure, but we will by then. They know what we have from watching film on last year. Saturday gate will be better and you never know, some people who don't have that day off may be able to work it out within the next 2 months. Some who could not get out this week will be there in october. Sucks, but oh well. More time to get our crap rolling.
They will know how we play, nothing much is changing, and what is changing they can read about on B,B&B. The only bad thing about this change, is that it is said the teams generally take a big step forward between the first and second games. I agree with the point spread.
Exactly! I think it was a good call by Bruce and the ADM. BTW, I heard my first radio commercial touting this game (done by TECH I might add) on the radio here in Tyler, TX today. That has never happened before! WHY TO GO GUYS!!
This could be a great opportunity for us and postponement is certainly the right decision. If we are fortunate enough (and we could be) to be undefeated going into the a&m game, and with a relatively easy schedule remaining thereafter, the a&m game will have strong BCS implications and will likely be nationally televised. It would be an absolutely PACKED stadium with all the hype and game-day atmosphere that it would deserve.
The cards are continuing to fall our way.
By the way, when it was announced on ESPN radio in Dallas that the game was postponed, the local radio host and prominent DFW sports-talk personality, Randy Galloway, was very complimentary of Tech saying specifically that LaTech was NOT a tune-up but a true test for the aggies and that he was very disappointed that the game had been postponed because he was very much looking forward to watching. A sidekick of Galloway then jumped in to add that Tech was a very good football team, "well-coached by that Dykes boy"(ha!).
A team improves the most between the first and second game of the season.
By postponing this game, your administration has just made sure both programs will be at a disadvantage going into their September 8 games.
If the decision was made for reasons other than purely for safety/health, as was officially stated, then I am incredibly ashamed of the decision makers. Will the moving of the game bring Tech more $$? Probably. Will the moving of the game put more people in the stands? Probably. Will the outcome of the game be different in October? Impossible to know. The possible higher ticket sales, profit, etc should not be used as a basis to move a Division 1 college football game nearly 48 hours from kickoff.
If both teams did not have a mutual off weekend, what would have been done?
LaTech admin was aided in their decision by Barksdale Air Force Base. Those guys were flying through the storm gathering far better up to the minute information than even the National Weather Service. Barksdale's data, at the time the decision to postpone was made, indicated (and I suppose still indicates) that the storm will track up I-49 to Shreveport. That was the primary reason for the decision to postpone.
It's not all about Shreveport!!!!! Consider everyone driving north through a hurricane!! It's just not safe.
Gotta fight that knee-jerk rxn. I'm mad bulldog football won't be happening until next week, but this could be a good thing for Tech. Houston is an easier first game...Florida...well, good luck TAMU.
So do you believe that if this game was originally scheduled at the Joe and it was a sell-out then the same postponement decision would be made? I'm just postulating that the decision to postpone wasn't made purely for safety/health reasons, as has been communicated.
As I said in another post, this decision was made based on information gathered by Barksdale Air Force Base and shared with Tech officials indicating the most likely course for the storm is for it to track up I-49 toward Shreveport. That may not happen, but it was the best information available.
So yes, had the game been at the Joe the decision would have been the same.
Disappointed, sure, and it is a mixed bag with the delay. But I cannot fault anybody for canceling because of hurricane safety concerns. No good reason to chance it. Not just rain and wind, but flooding, washed out bridges, downed power lines, falling trees, etc.
The track will probably shift over to Dallas then back to Monroe. These prediction models are basically useless, Issac was headed toward Tampa last Friday, then the panhandle, then Mobile, then Biloxi. What's the point in a model if the track is +/- 700 miles. There is just too much variability to predict a track. But still probably a good decision better safe than sorry.
In a way I am glad the game was moved. Now we play on a Saturday and that should be a packed stadium. It will make it easier for a lot of us far away to be able to get to the game. Overall, I think a good decision by the admin.
There goes our by week. That ain't good.
So will this be in Ruston or Shreveport? If Shreveport, will tickets be honored?
Will our HOFers be there this time?
Will all those scouts be there this time?
Most importantly, I'm freaking pissed that now I have to wait three more weeks to see some GD football!!!!! Cant make/watch Houston.
I would really hate to see something like this happen to anybody:

Trees, wind, and soggy ground are not a good combination.
Was it completely about safety? Apparently Bruce's comment about something Sonny said implies that safety was not the only consideration in the decision-making process. And your counterpoint is an attempt to stray from the point I was making. I'm not questioning the decision, but rather the reasoning behind the decision.
So I'm assuming it will not be televised.
I don't know that is a safe assumption. I think they are waiting to decide a time on a game on the 13th because they are working with the espn people to get it done. I know someone who know's someone who once knew someone that knew Cartek's cab driver. :icon_wink:
Just seems like an unscrupulous way to gain an advantage. If we were on the other side of this situation and the other school's AD made a comment like Bruce did about Sonny being ok with moving the game because he didn't have film, the decision would be questioned the exact way I am by members of this board and members of the Tech family.
Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to act as an objective observer.
In the slim (20%) chance that it does not rain, how stupid does this move look?
Why not Friday night or Sunday?
Unnecessary and dumb remark by BVDV if correctly paraphrased, but not having film was not a reason for postponement. It's quite a bit more likely that the added game experience favors the aggies by a wide margin over any benefit we get from having film to review.
I would put not having film to review more in the category of a consolation benefit when trying to look on the bright side of a situation. We were geared-up and ready to play. It's frustrating to have to shift back to practice mode and was not the preferred decision for SD - guaranteed. It's just a decision with which he can live.
Maybe he was joking and it didn't come off as a joke. He's not the most vibrant speaker I've ever heard. (Now I'm on the naughty list.:icon_wink:)
They might have motives in terms of gaining a competitive advantage as well. At this point, they don't really know how their offense will emerge. It would not be good for them to try and cut their teeth against a veteran and gamely LaTech squad because they could very well lose the game--which would be a downer. Now, if they lose to Florida next week, it's not nearly as big of a deal from a perceptual standpoint (fanwise).
I saw BVDV at lunch today and talking to Barksdale is what he indicated to me as well...said there were 3 options...1 still play in the rain and wind and lightning 2. Play Saturday morning in Shreveport 3. Play Oct 13th. Also told me someone else had the final say (words exactly from his mouth and it was not DR). Disappointed but I feel the right decision was made.
Dykes on ESPN NOW
The right decision would have been waiting until TOMORROW to call the game one way or another. Calling it a full 2+ days before the game is simply moronic.
Dude, he doesn't want a government job. I've got one and it doesn't pay too well.
See here's the problem with that. I've seen that forecast, but I've also seen multiple other forecasts showing it hitting Shreveport dead center with heavy rain, lightning and wind.
Not safe.
And again not to beat a dead horse but playing in that kind of weather IMO HEAVILY favors the Aggies.
Latest NHC track projection has the previously scheduled gametime position of the center of what is left of the storm close to Springhill.
Decision looking better with every passing hour. And the $$$ decision looking even better than that.
[QUOTE=HogDawg;1261596]Oh sure. Wait until the very last minute so none of us have adequate time left to cancel our hotel reservations without penalty. :icon_roll: This is exactly why you're not in charge, DogsWin.
You are DAMNED RIGHT, because if I was in charge WE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME ON A THURSDAY NIGHT TO BEGIN WITH!!!
I'm getting into the heart of the storm now. I'm at work (the big airport) and we had to turn the generator on after losing power at 6:30pm. So we are taking the beating now and will work hard to get this thing availible for commercial service as soon as we can.
Guys - come on...for the safety of the fans and the players. The 30 mph wind and the rain at 80 % chance of heavy rains and is something I really don't feel safe in. They did the right thing. The game will be on a Saturday and the chance of a really nice crowd is improved...
Don't forget about 60% chance of "thunderstorms." If aTm would have driven to Shreveport, the game would have been cancelled due to lightning in the area there would be no make-up game. It would have been written off. And the safety factor has to be taken into consideration. Not just for the locals...but for everyone driving. I hate it & it sucks but I think they made the correct decisions.
FWIW we a declaring a state of emergency in Claiborne Parish @ 9:00 am in the morning...
Thanks to whomever made the decision today to cancel. I was able to cancel all reservations for a trip from Oregon and reschedule for October. Tech showed itself to be a responsible organization, most concerned for the safety of its fans, students, athletes and the general public.
folks, everything changes when the State and parishs' begin declaring a state of emergency, a lot more people start getting a say in what is going on and it is much bigger than a football game. GOSHEP begins having a say in this due to a lot of factors that it seems many of you have not even thought of, the decision to postpone may not have came from anyone at either University. This situation is bigger than TECH or aTm, some of you need to step back and try to see the big picture and find someting else to bit%h about, the game has been postponed using the best available information.
We seem to have a lot of folks on here who are weather experts and and are much smarter than everyone else and seem to think that the only people this storm affects are themselves. There is more to it than that, and after reading many of the post on this thread, it is obvious we have some people on the board who do not have a clue, and I will leave it at that.
OK....red dot away if you wish...I can take it.
Really Dwayne? Why in the heck are we declaring a SoE in Claiborne?
I can't understand why we are even having this particular conversation.
A&M folks are LIVID about the decision. Very unhappy.
They certainly have no "motives" in the move. do you understand that the move puts them in a very rough situation? Now they go into the game against the Florida Gators next week having never taken a single snap in this new scheme with new quarterback.
Hate to break it to you, but they were counting on breaking in that offense against us.
It also strips away what WAS a bye week right before their LSU game. That bye week wasn't just a break to get healthy. It was an extra week of gameplanning.
I'm also pretty sure They don't give a crap how many folks were in the stands at Indy stadium. They don't give a crap about ticket sales for OUR home game.
FWIW, I'm not very happy about the decision either. I was ready to get this thing started.... Now the dreaded offseason just got extended by 10 days.
