Getting our asses handed to us tonight...
Missing our bench this year.
"Long three by Tech, no good, easy rebound for UL-Lafayette"
"Long inside, layup good"
Very disappointing.
82-71 under 3
No defense
I wish I knew is HCMW recruited players with size and didn't get them or if he avoids beefy guys because he thinks they can't run the floor the way he wants.
Come on Dawgs we need this win against ul-lgbt!
We are missing Keyon and JJ off the bench!
Well, ULL is no NJIT, but they are looking pretty good tonight. :)
Hard to beat a team nearly 80% from 3 point line. We have got to learn to play more physical.
That sums it up HD. No inside defense whatsoever.
Can't rebound or make free throws. Not going to beat good teams if you can't do those things.
We have problems - we need someone to toughen up and play in the middle - if this team had an Antonio Meeking, we would be undefeated.
But we don't and MW needs to find some answers - looking forward to post game.
We have forgotten how to shoot free throws again.
Mike's coaching style may not fit big time
Looks like HCMW will be in Ruston a while longer.
This is my concern as well. This is NOT a new problem for us. We had the same issues when we lost the WAC Tournament title game to a bigger and more physical NMSU team in Las Vegas 2 years ago. And again, when we lost to a more physical USM team in Hattiesburg last year. In that game, USM's Michael Craig flat out beat us by playing football in the paint. Our "finesse" guys couldn't handle it.
White has had 3 years to fix this, and he hasn't.
Very disappointing loss..... lowers my expectations for the season considerably.
What the hell is our problem with in-state schools? ! This is ridiculous.
Gibby Talbot might have gone off for 20 against us. We are getting out-rebounded by everyone we play.
What is the final score?
I think we will be okay come conference play, but I think we can kiss any thoughts of a top 25 ranking goodbye.
This loss makes me laugh.
need to beat Cuse now!!
Pieces still coming together. We had high expectations with only 4 starters coming back. We all know White can put it together. We lost to this same team last year. We will hit our stride again about mid-season and roll....... That is what we have done the last couple of years. The key this year is if we can continue to roll through the CUSA tournament. I have no doubts that we will be at the top of the conference.
ULL gets WAY up for Tech, but this does not and has never determined our season.
Again, did MW recruits any guys with size and not get them or does he just go for lanky guys that he hopes run the floor well. I thought he had recruited someone that was a legit big. Maybe I misheard, but I thought we found a 6'10" 250 type guy.
We got panty-hosed.
4 players coming back
One thing's for sure, its going to be a HIGH challenge to beat our marquis opponents X(
A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:
Erik McCree and Alex Hamilton combined for 52 points, but second half woes were too much to overcome for Louisiana Tech on the road as the Bulldogs fell to Louisiana-Lafayette, 94-86, on Wednesday night in the Cajundome.
Discuss it here.
We were outrebounded on the offensive and defensive glass 29-42.

I just looked at the Box score. 5 LA Tech players played 8-9 min each tonight against ULL, but they only scored a combined total of 11 points. That's not enough scoring from the bench.
Can Sheppard defend the post? He isn't far from 240 now. I seriously consider playing him now. We have zero size and presence in post. Mcree is a 3 playing the 4. Kyser is a 4 playing the 5 and we have no 5. Really could have used Gibby for games like this. Edwards was our best post defender and player tonight. I think Mcree may have to become the 6th man and slide Kyser over and start Edwards. White is not even close to ready as I feared after watching him play a few games. He needs to play some but has a long way to go.
Don't kid yourself though this is a really good team who won belt, made the tourney and lost to a good Creighton team. They had a top 10 pick to draft but returned everyone else and Long is a beast. Their new pg is pretty good too. They only lost 2 games because Long was out and barely lost to McNeese because their pg was out and that s a tough place to play. I don't think this loss will hurt our ncaa chances as much as our pride when all is said and done. They will win a lot of games this year.
I think we're missing Massey's bulk/athleticism more than Gibby. I'm not sure Branden is ready. But he has the frame to carry 250 comfortably. McCree is more of a finesse guy and we need him on the floor for scoring purposes. But, you're right, Edwards was much more effective than White against Long. Long was awesome tonight. Have to give him his due.
We are missing his athleticism but Massey did himself in. We need a big body who can defend the post a little and put up some resistance. I think I try to play Edwards with Kyser some. Let's face it Kyser is great vs guards driving the lane but a poor defender vs other bigs. Even if Mcree continues to start bring Edwards in I guess or maybe instead of White. Anderson had the big body Mcree doesn't and that is fine but not when your center is that outmanned down low too.
Embarrassing and unacceptable.
So what did y'all's DVR's record?
Boxer, an enforcer doesn't have to be 7 ft tall. USM's Michael Craig was only 6'5, but he was 250 lbs of MAN! He was the closest thing you'll see to a football player on the floor. And he brought THAT football attitude to the floor and scored.
We just need a couple of "enforcers" who can run the floor and go to the basket hard. Take and deliver punishment!!
If there is anything embarrassing about it, it's that they are beating us with Louisiana kids every year. 3 starters and 11 total on roster from LA, granted they are all S LA kids but when was the last time we landed a good basketball recruit from I-10 or below?
If you have seen our team play much this year you had to see this coming.
BS on most of that. ULL was not a good team last year, and they lost their all-everything player from last year. And they are not a good team this year either. ULL got very lucky to win that Belch tournament last year with two miracle 1-point upsets against much better teams in WKU and Georgia State on what was essentially a home court for ULL. And our at-large chances are at 0.0001% right now. Gone. We already have two bad losses and 0 quality wins. Our pathetic schedule only has 1 Top 50 opponent (Syracuse) and only 5 games against 4 other Top 100 opponents (NC State, UTEPx2, Old Dominion, Charlotte). That's 25 must-wins (already lost 2) and only 6 chances for quality wins on our schedule with only 1 of the 6 being a big resume opportunity.
Any time we lose to an in-state double-directional or hyphenated school, it is embarrassing and unacceptable.
And yes, it was quite apparent to me after the Southern and Temple games that this team was not close to good enough to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Coach White made a big mistake by hyping this team up so much with all that NCAA or bust talk in the preseason. That was way too much pressure to put on a team with 9 newcomers and a schedule that gives them almost no margin for error. White made it clear that this team only had 1 goal this year, and one of only two avenues to achieve that goal is already closed. I posted about it after the Temple game and got blasted for it.
"Louisiana" in this link, too. Come on man! Can we please proofread before we publish?
Need to put a clause in our coaches contract regarding losing to an instate school. They should get penalized in the form of reduced pay for losing.
My opinion, he's young, skinny and learning college ball at its faster pace. He's being coached and getting playing experience. He's only 205 lbs but will naturally put on muscle weight and I'm sure they're working with him on strengthening. He moves well and he has good awareness of the court.
He's also a little on the quiet understated side but I won't say timid. But so was Kareem Abdul Jabar. He just needs to learn big man college ball and physically grow up some.
Plain and simple this is another bad loss. Should have beat this team and Temple. We aren't as good as a lot of us thought we would be...BUT. We still have a very real shot to win CUSA. I think any chance of an at large will be out the window unless we beat BOTH Syracuse and NC State.SO win the conference haha.
Take it a step further, he can't learn to play against talented big men if he doesn't have playing time. ULL has big fast, athletic, talented big men and Joniah got significant playing time. Hopefully he, and the rest of the freshmen, will learn a lot before conference play starts. I don't like losing to ULL at all, but I want to win the conference and conference tournament more.
We have no size in the middle. Kyser is a weak side defender, he is great at leaving his man and blocking a shot by another defender's guy. He cannot body up on a big boy and shut him down, he just doesn't have the size. He is a 4, we need a true big boy 5, and those are hard to get at the non-elite programs (at least one that can walk and chew gum at the same time).
Yep. Even beating both Syracuse and NC State may not be enough if we don't run the table in conference play, which is nearly impossible. Those are both bubble teams at best right now. Neither are projected to win 20 regular season games. This is the worst Syracuse team Boeheim has put on the floor in a long, long time. And the committee knows that Temple's two best players missed their first 10 or so games or so even if Temple improves, it doesn't improve our resume.
15 of 25 60% from the FT line, won't get it done, especially on the road. Out-rebounded...again. That never helps....
This team has ONE shot at dancing this year. Get hot in the CUSA Tourney and win the auto-bid. Other than that, forget it. UTEP and ODU will be tough to beat out for the regular season crown. I also like Charlotte as a dark horse contender. But, truthfully, no one is setting the world on fire, so Tech has as good a shot as anyone. That's why it will come down to who's hot in the tourney. The regular season is more about positioning yourself for an NIT bid, or other post season tourney bid.

Other than the bad defense, especially in the post, the one thing that sticks out to me is we only had six assists on 31 makes. Speedy usually has that, or more, by himself. We are a better team when we share the ball.
Yes. I know we should win a game we score 86 points, but it was still something that caught my eye.
If you want to live in the past so be it. The post I responded to called them double directional. Lafayette is directional as is Austin chapel hill Knoxville Reno LA. That's a bunch of other "double directional" schools tech can't beat according to the original posters definition.
I'm out and I'm loving it.
After the game was removed from DirecTV's guide, the recording that was set up to record also disappeared. I knew I was beat so I didn't even check to see if the game was being shown, nor did I record anything.
The video was so-so for me. I know ULL was running the video, but like you I'd rather see what Tech is doing instead of seeing a ULL basket replay from multiple angles.
I turned off the ULL audio since it wasn't in sync with the video, but found that the Tech All Access audio was a couple of seconds ahead of the video. So I paused the Tech audio for a couple of seconds so that the audio ended up being only a split second off. It was a crazy way to watch a game, but at least I got it to a bearable state. The game itself was painful to watch.
This week I was working in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge area and WWL referred to them as UL and the ESPN affiliate in BR did the same. A year ago that would have never happened. It appears to be slowly becoming common place for all south of Hodge and the entire G&L community.
Kent is "out and loving it."
Tech absolutely man-handled and embarrassed the most talented ULL football team ever.. in Lafayette. I think you are confused on who is daddy.
And you don't have to keep reminding us that your softball team is good, bc no one gives a shit. Football matters most, and yall (still) suck.
Okay, who commented under my rep that my comment was lame but didn't put a signature to own his/her comment?
