His fantasy football hour from 4-5 is incredible. If you like sports betting he's a good listen as well

Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
Fletch was on vacation all last week. He has Tech coaches on weekly in season and has Marty Cordaro on for about 30 minutes every Wednesday where they split time between baseball and Tech. In general he is really complimentary on Tech and is of the opinion that we are a clear 2 in Louisiana and better than most P5 teams that are having a down season. At least when I listen, 7:30-8:30, I feel like it is an even mix between pro sports, LSU, Tech, and high school.

Thats what Ive gathered. He has a a good focus on SEC, specifically LSU and a little Arkansas. He's pretty high on Tech athletics and usually very complimentary. And of course he covers other things that may be of inteterest to some listeners, like other NLA universities and high school sports.

Nothing is going to change with the coverage we get from Gannett until there is a change in management overseeing sports coverage.

To say it's an even mix is quite frankly not true.
If all you expect is about 15 minutes of Tech talk over the 900 minutes he's on air each week, then I guess you could call it fair 28 weeks of the year.
Over the last year, Fletch has aired:
- 0 Guice interviews
- 1 McClelland interview
- 12 Holtz interviews
- 9 Konkol interviews
- 0 Stoehr interviews
- 2 Burroughs interview
- 2 Montgomery interviews
- 0 player interviews
- 1 SID interview
- 0 Nitz, Allen, Thigpen interviews
- 0 Tech beat writer interviews
- 0 BleedTechBlue interviews
- 1 former player interview (McCown)
That's only 28 total Tech segments over an entire year, which equals less than 0.9% of Fletch's air time. Maybe I should be generous and count Cordaro's 19 interviews. Martie ups it to 47 total Tech segments over the entire year, which equals about only about 1.5% of air time. He talks a little Tech here and there outside those segments when prompted by listeners so I'd put his total Tech talk at about 2% of his entire show. I don't know about you, but I think the biggest show in North Louisiana deserves a lot more than 2% of the air time. Fox, Mintz, and Dietrich give Tech at least quadruple the Tech talk that Fletch does, and Dietrich's show is an hour shorter. It's also fact that Fletch cut his Tech talk in half after NWST started sponsoring his show.
And Fletch's opinion of Tech changes when he has ULL's Travis Webb on the show.

Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
Twitter is a much different audience than Facebook. I expect FB feeds to be full of family photos, vacations, etc...
Twitter (especially official Twitter accounts) is primarily for brand communication and now mostly for social commentary.
I keep my accounts pretty separated, but some people don't.
TMac tweeting a picture of his family on vacation is supposed to be cute, not controversial. I think it would be considered cute had we had any coverage whatsoever in the newspaper. Some of this is TMac's fault. Some of this is our SID fault. Some of this is Holtz's fault. Some of this is Guice's fault. BUT please do not misunderstand that 90% of this is directly the fault of the news mafia of North Louisiana.

I concur. While I certainly have no problem with anyone taking a vacation, I was just thinking how genuinely odd it is for an FBS AD --and this one in particular-- to take a vacation right now. With our fall practice already started, our new construction not yet completed, school starting and the football ticket selling season already in high gear, it does seem odd that our AD would take a vacation right now. Maybe he should be thinking about promoting the upcoming season?

Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS

Yet here we are discussing it, aren't we? He can choose to express or brand himself however he likes across various social media platforms, but posting pics of donors choosing carpet, personal leisure pics, etc. on twitter isn't very wise considering his twitter audience, especially when he already has a problem connecting with the common Tech fans. By posting certain pics, he's inviting totally avoidable and unnecessary criticism. I usually just ignore those things, but QNG brought it up so I commented. If he just puts his deep sea fishing pics with his bros on Facebook or Instagram, nobody would've said anything about it, or if he was with his wife and kids, nobody would've said anything. Twitter is the primary platform for him to communicate with common Tech fans unlike other social media platforms. It's called knowing your audience and the message being conveyed to them. Pretty simple.
-
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
His twitter account is NOT connected to Tech. Sounds like it's his only account. I do the same with my account. Tommy's profile is personal AND professional. A don't see family in the deep fishing pics. Y'all sure he wasn't fishing for donations or future donations? Here's his profile:
"Servant. Husband to Jessica. Father to two wonderful boys. Director of Athletics at Louisiana Tech University."
PS- A personal irony about Twitter accounts and professional usage . . . as much Tech stuff as I publish on my Twitter account (99%), Tommy does not follow it. (And neither do Marco or Dr. G . . . But DeeWayne (and the News-Star guy) do!)

The Louisiana Tech AD's twitter account isn't connected to Tech even though you say it says "Director of Athletics at Louisiana Tech University" in his bio?
I wonder what the 3.6K accounts follow him for since "his twitter account is NOT connected to Tech"...
Latechsports.com links his twitter account... http://www.latechsports.com/staffdir/latc-staffdir.html Looks connected to me.
If he was fishing for donations, it may have been a good idea to communicate that.

One of my pet peeves is when restaurant servers explain their bad service to me by saying they've been too busy with another table. Although I realize the manager is responsible for staff assignments, the server actually is saying "Sorry I didn't take care of your table. I decided another table was more important than yours."
Diaz's "Hell Week" explanation feels like that...

The coaches always seem to talk like that. Of course there are concerns, and it sounds like they are addressing them by giving the backup more practice than normal because we need to be prepared for the worst.
-
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
It's coach speak. We have a 5th year coach who has been building this program. No excuses. Just reload every year and win at least 8 or 9 games. That's who we are.

I wonder if our advertising sales experts are still negotiating for the same deal we had 5 years ago with the Gannett guys.

If that happens, they may get less LSU-centric/Tech-hatin' editors/writers and more of an unbiased group from Texas (unbiased in terms of Louisiana at least) ;) Weren't Ferrell and someone else in Shreveport at Gannett Tech Hatin'

Ferrell and Lang refuse to cover Tech unless 1) we're playing LSU or 2) something bad happens.

I hope Jimmy Watson lands on his feet. He deserves much better treatment that he seems to have received from Gannett.

So I guess when we beat LSpoo next year they'll refuse to publish that too ;)

I notice Ferrell staffed a NSU scrimmage the other day . . . .

No one has mentioned it here but there is a web site called The Louisiana Tech Media Hub at www.latechreport.com/ that puts all of the recent articles on line. Most of you probably know about it.

I'd wager a member of this forum runs it ...

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Sunday LSU section of The Times after the season starts with their 7 PM print deadline. LSU-BYU won't end until after midnight.

Hmmm. I still remember Watson lambasting Tech fans for wanting to fire Jack Bicknell during his last year as coach. If Watson had his way, JBIII would still be our head coach.

Yeah, J.W. and many more of our fans loved Bicknell. Dooley made amends and things were great until The Times decided they didn't want anybody actually covering Tech. I guarantee it hurt him to see the lack of Tech coverage for the past several years over there.

Lang was on Mixin it up with Mintz this afternoon. He talked of his Los Angeles travels with the three Shreveport golfers playing in the US Am. He spoke a bit about getting geared up to cover H.S. football, lsu and the cowboys in addition to the 130M sports complex the City of Shreveport is proposing. If there are two teams that don't need a thread-bare sports staff covering it's lsu and the cowboys. Mintz is a different story. He had a great remote show last week at Freedom Fields covering the Dawgs.

You would think Donald Trump was head coach at TECH. No news but bad news. In fact, invite him to a game so they can kill two birds with one stone.
