Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Indy bowl was always at bottom of my list just above the NM bowl. The last 3 years we have been to real bowls with great or historic venues. My family has enjoyed a few days away during Christmas and I'd take all three bowl experiences over the Indy bowl ANY day and every year and it is not even close. I couldn't believe Bleed Tech Blue and some others were actually WANTING to play in SHV, those folks must have not traveled to other bowls the last few years. Excited about going back to DFW for another bowl and looking forward to seeing Toyota Stadium for first time.

I could have attended the Indy Bowl, can't make Frisco. With the way the holiday falls, I would think many more people are off work the Wednesdday after Christmas vs. the Wednesday before. Even with the Frisco bowl being at night, I can't make the trip.

I'm in the same boat. My son is in school through Thursday and my vacation for the next week is already turned in. I'm also driving through Dallas with the family on Friday to visit family. I'm trying to find a way to make it work, but it doesn't look good. First bowl I have missed since Humanitarian bowl in 2001.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
The Ignorant Bowl and it's board suck! I hope we never play there again and they fold. And after this year there will be another
2 universities that never want to come back. Plus the local Shreveport police lack of common sense traffic control will keep
them away forever all by themselves. The Ignorant Bowl serve zero purpose for the community.
No more discussion needed.
Next deal.

FSU has requested their $$ up front............for some reason they don't trust the powers that be!
Yes, I am joking......don't want their legal counsel (public defender) sending me a letter.
I used to support the I-Bowl, lots of family tradition tied to the games for me personally......but it does need to fold. They needed parking money and gate............good luck with that!!! FSU may bring 750. USM will bring 4-5K.....possibly.
I-Bowl, when you stated publicly that Tech was your 4th choice, the final nail was in your coffin

USM-Washington had 20k in Dallas the day after Christmas. USM-FSU in Shreveport two days after Christmas will draw more.

Same here. Could've done, Indy, AF, HOD, NO. 7pm on a Wednesday. It's too early to drive over after work. Too late to drive home after the game and still go to work. Can't take two days off for a game three hours away the week before Christmas. But with only 20k seats I'm sure we won't have any problems filling the place.

Have a buddy at work who is a huge FSU fan. Flies to FSU from Dallas at least two games a year. I told him he was lucky to have FSU in a bowl so near. He said that was NO WAY he was going to the I-bowl. Knows it would be a crap experience even if his team won, as very few FSU fans would be there.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
After the last 3 bowl games and I imagine this year as well, it is obvious how important the venue is to the bowl experience for fans. Superdome and TCU's new stadium made those experiences and games so nice. HOD at Cotton Bowl is just about on par with Indy but in Dallas compared to SHV. I am looking forward to seeing Toyota Stadium as well and expect it to be very nice.

Yeah, I enjoyed the experience of Tech playing a bowl game in the Cotton Bowl stadium because of all the history of that stadium. But I know that means little to younger generation. The Frisco Bowl is one I would love to see our conference get a long-term contract with.

Pawdawg is correct. Bowl payouts are irrelevant to us. All payouts go directly to conference pool to cover everyone's bowl expenses, and what little is leftover gets distributed around the conference. Tech's payout comes from our ticket sales over minimum threshold. And C-USA's payout from Indy Bowl is only a fraction of what the SEC's payout would've been.

This 3-man DL rush for USM is totally ineffective. Eight men in coverage and they STILL leave a receiver wide open for an easy TD. USM will get their doors blown off if they don't start sending a 4th rusher to put pressure on the QB.

Yes, the last two minutes of the first half when our HC called a TO to stop the clock so that USM would have time to kick a FG against our nationally ranked defense.

...and I just spent the last 5 minutes trying to explain to my family why LA Tech continues to lose to such a bad football team as USM. No offense to you and USM, but this is NOT one of USM's better teams, yet LA Tech STILL found a way to lose to the Eagles this year. The score is now 33-6, FSU, in the 3rd Qtr. That's just pitiful. USM looks as overwhelmed as SMU did when they played LA Tech.

ESPNU radio show at noon today (Danny Kanell and Andy Staples show) on de-motivation for Fla State: "you've had a disappointing season, your coach left, it's cold, THERE'S NOBODY AT THE GAME."
Perception is reality.
Pulling for USM of course but not for the committees and director running the bowl. We should never go there again. So thankful for three trips to DFW, one to New Orleans.

So we should pass on CUSA's only opportunity to play a P5 in a bowl game? Bullshit. LA Tech would have played FSU (or any of the other available ACC teams) MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!
-
Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
This type of stuff never ceases to amaze me.
Southern Miss just FAIL MISERABLY on their latest on-side kick attempt against FSU, and they kicked it right to the FSU player in the air who returned it deep into USM territory. Compound that poor execution with the fact that USM also earned an "offsides" penalty to boot on the same play. The result was, FSU got to start their newest drive on USM's 30-yd line and ultimately scored another TD to go ahead 39-13 with a whole quarter still to play.
Contrast that very poor "on-side kick" attempt with the ABSOLUTELY PERFECT on-side kick that USM executed against LA Tech in Ruston a month ago to earn their come-from-behind win over our Bulldogs in double OT. Unbelievable. :o

The CUSA referees need to quit screwing over its good teams --like LA Tech-- during the regular season, because the bad teams ultimately get exposed during bowl games. Three CUSA teams that LA Tech lost to during the regular season --UAB, UNT and USM-- have all looked like crap during bowl season, and lost big. And not ironically, LA Tech was the victim of very poor officiating in each of those games. For example, LA Tech went into the UAB game averaging only 3 penalties a game, but was miraculously flagged for 10 penalties for over 100 yards against UAB. It was nothing short of highway robbery. LA Tech had similar poor officiating experiences against UNT and USM as well.
But these bowl games prove that these bad CUSA teams that receive protection from the CUSA refs during the regular season can't take the poor refs with 'em. And they get exposed in bowl games. Meanwhile, LA Tech finally got fair officiating treatment in the Frisco Bowl, and performed big. And as most of you know, we do it EVERY YEAR during bowl season.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
FSU now leads USM 42-13. 4th and 2 for USM on their own 24 (~4 minutes remain) and they get stuffed for no gain.
Really? The stadium has emptied, you've sucked like a Hoover all day, and now you are going to go all out to get the first down? FSU can't help but score again from that distance.

Yep. USM's kicker had the game of his life against us: 4-4 with a career long 56-yarder in the final minute followed by a perfect onside kick. He couldn't even make a PAT against FSU today much less execute an onside kick... :icon_mad:

Tech won it's 4th straight Bowl game, in primetime with a national audience, in a near capacity stadium, in a region that is critical to the growth of the university, against a team Tech will continue to compete against (on the field and recruiting).

BTW, don't go there with the McClelland "near capacity" thing. The stadium only held like 16K.

It was "near" capacity....until the mass exodus of SMU fans. Now, whether the stadium holds 20K as everyone but you say, or 16K, of if the effing stadium has 8K seats IT WAS NEAR CAPACITY!!! That is a fact.
Here we go again. Just like last year when you want to belittle our win over Navy, now OMG! let's be sure and rain on Tech's bowl parade.
BTW, I want to know...
HoD Bowl 2014 Were you there? Yes or No
NO Bowl 2015 Were you there? Yes or No
AF Bowl 2016 Were you there? Yes or No
Frisco Bowl 2017 Were you there? Yes or No

You are correct, the "near capacity" mantra is very similar to the "top 25" mantra. Some of our low football IQ fans buy that kind of BS.
Due to financial and family holiday commitments over the past 4 years I have not been able to attend. Family first.
If you were there you should know that approximately 4K seats were unavailable so reported capacity was 16K.

Funny how we're now grading this bowl game on a curve. The turnstile count will be somewhere between 15k and 19k. USM brought between 3,500 and 5,000 for a game within easy driving distance of most of its fanbase against a P5 program that began the year in the top 5, one of the most recognizable brands in college athletics.

There were about 200-250 seats in the corner of the EZ on the west side that were available, but only had a few folk scattered in them. So, if there were 20,000 seats and say, 19,800 were taken, I would say that rises to the level of "it was near capacity."

16,500 was capacity with the construction in the south end zone. So with 15,000 in the stands it was near capacity, even though capacity was a shot glass.
