It was a good comeback attempt, but should never had been in that position.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
So now we can switch to a new Tech QB and get him ready for the portal.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Tonight was the first game I’ve been to in a long time. Gonna be a lot longer before I go back to another one.
Guys, we absolutely made the wrong hire. Crummy is absolutely clueless and years away from being ready to be a HC. Unfortunately for us, we are stuck with him for the duration of his contract.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Well, we *might* neat Sam Houston and maybe Jacksonville State. I don't see many more wins on the schedule. Gonna be fun when we're the dregs of out bottom-feeder conference.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Going for 2 on that first TD of the second half was stupid.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Not kicking a Field Goal at the UNT 24 in a 23-14 game was a stupid decision.
We were too aggressive when we did not need to be.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
He has no idea how to manage a game. He definitely has no idea how to manage an offense. Gonna be a long, long however many years he’s got left on his contract.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Sure looked like the coach and the team prefer Turner.

Game day experience? I love to watch the 'Dawgs but we've completely eliminated any effort at creating a game day experience beyond the play on the field. Have you noticed all the little things we don't have any more--no smoke or pyrotechnics when the team takes the field, no fireworks when the team scores, the band gets less and less playing time during the game with the awful DJ, fewer and fewer concession options. Do those things win games? No, but people want to be entertained, they want the pageantry that goes with the play on the field and we have completely eliminated that.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
We drove in right at kickoff. Almost as many students were walking out of Hideaway Park headed to their car or apartment as were headed toward the stadium. Then they leave at half if they even show up.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
I don't get to make it to too many games but I brought my entire family today. Eight of us. We went to the UMass game a few years ago and the game experience from then until now is night and day. My kids had a blast at the UMass game and the game today was just not as fun and the outcome had very little to do with it.
We have GOT to fix the MC/DJ vs. Band issue. It is a real problem. The sound system is also TERRIBLE.
It has been nice to be in and around Ruston this weekend. Ruston - the town - has made so many strides since I was in college and the game experience is still better than when I was in school but it has taken a BIG step back from where it was a few years ago. Those things matter ... they just do.

This should be an easy fix and DONE before the next home game. No one expects a bunch of money to be spent on a video board that's going away, but turn the volume down and rely more on the Band of Pride for our music. The number of times the DJ and the band are playing simultaneously is ridiculous.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Easy for Louisiana Tech? That is the biggest 4 letter word in history for a Tech employee.

Be careful what you wish for, or the Tech brain trust might resurrect “The 300” next home game.

At least they would be trying to do something. Now we're doing nothing at all to create an experience.

North Texas Band fixed it, they just played over it. BOP got out performed all around.

I honestly don’t know why they bother to show up when they can’t stay past halftime. Just stay home.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
The only team on our schedule we are truly better than is NSU, but then they are horrible; lost to SFA last night 41-7 and it wasn't even that close.
It is true CUSA sucks and is very weak, and therefore we can beat NMSU, UTEP, Jax State...maybe another one, but we won't. FIU has to be scratching their heads. This Coach Crummy bunch can realistically finish 2-10. But I think they'll get lucky a couple of times and finish 4-8. Which the Koolaid drinkers will tell us, see! it's an improvement over last year's 3-9, making progress, baby! This will also be the 4th straight losing season. When I left Indy Stadium that night in December, 2019, a 14-0 win over Miami, I knew things were IFFY but never dreamed Tech Football would sink this low.
I said it last year, Coach Crummy is unqualified to be a head coach. He is a mistake and whoever hired him is also a mistake.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
I hope the higher ups are happy. A few years back, we ragged on the big money people who came late and left early after the band played at half. They see the games as a social event. They have successfully turned the entire fanbase into a group that, I imagine, won’t feel the least bit compelled to stay to the end anymore. How many can say honestly that Tech football is THE THING you do on Saturday? I can only say it’s the thing I do when I can’t find a fun thing to do elsewhere. We bring friends, hang out as a family, and basically do what we could do at home while watching literally any game from our couch.

I am waiting for the fall. Neon is living on borrowed time. The home-cooking refs bailed him out last night, and they have yet to play a really good team. That changes next week at Oregon.

There’s a lot of people who are waiting and wanting Colorado to lose. It’s like no one wants someone to be a winner. They will probably lose a game or maybe more through the rest of this season. But they have played quality teams and won. The press coverage of Colorado has already been a big success. I’ve met Deion and actually visited his home when he lived in Prosper TX. He is actually a very down to earth guy and he has a strong faith. I wish him success.

That’s a fact. People definitely will be celebrating when they eventually lose. I love the things he is preaching to his players. Even if they don’t win another game it’s still amazing what he has done.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
He’s about as bad a speaker as he is a coach. He said we competed and that he’d made some coaching mistakes… you think? He’s made at least a few serious coaching mistakes in every game. Generally speaking based on his lacking communication skills and his uninspiring exuberance it’s no wonder Tech has such poor starts to their games. He’s a dud and a dull one at that. It’s sad but true. I sure wish he’d snap out of it because we need some success but it’s feeling very doubtful.

I mean I was proud of the hole they dug themselves out of from. I just wish they weren’t in that hole.
Of course coaching caused at least an 11 point swing in UNT’s favor.

That one word just sealed the deal for a large portion of the fans who are still engaged to now disconnect from any feeling toward the program. If this coach can say anything good about the 500 yards of offense we gave up or the fact that we looked totally lost on offense until our “starter” went out then he doesn’t know the point of football.
-
Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
I guess you can say “we competed” in terms of we didn’t stop bailing water as our ship sank, but it’s still going down so who really cares. “Competing” is nothing more than what losers say. We’ve heard it for years and at this point it means nothing. It reminds me of the boy who cried “wolf” story.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
My original prediction for this year was a slow start with a lot better finish to the year. Had hoped for 7 wins. I believe 4 wins is the ceiling for this team. I saw nothing yesterday from Crummy that gives me any hope that this is going to get any better.

At the time I thought we should go for it. It was the beginning of the 4th quarter (or end of 3rd) and would put us down 8. It’s a 2 score game if we kick it or if we miss, so why not try to make it a one score game. Not going for the 42 yard FG on the 1st series of the second half hurt us most. Coaching decisions to end the 1st Half and begin the 2nd killed us. It could have been a 17-16 Tech lead after the 1st drive of the 2nd half.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Two old adages held true -
1) Don't chase points early in a game (prior to mid 4th qtr)
2) Always take the points when you can get them
Lost that game because of HORRIBLE defense
Which made the "points" decisions even more glaring

was the defense horrible because of playcalling or just bad. They hadn't been awful vs. FIU/SMU, but I think they had the wrong gameplan and Power never adjusted. However, there were plenty of missed tackles.

Yes. Tech couldn’t get off a block thus they couldn’t put any pressure on the QB or hardly run to the ball. We seemed to be out of position almost every play and most of the night. Our pass coverage had huge gaps in it and there were only a couple of times when first contact tackled anybody. We looked undersized, weak, not football smart and didn’t play with any desire or enthusiasm. But, according to Cumbie, we “competed”, not true, we didn’t.

I did not watch nor listen to the game. I spent the day getting ready for deer season at my deer lease. Did Turner's performance in relief of Bachmier (sp?) prove good enough to ignite a quarterback controversy going forward?

There was a noticeable difference in the way that the team responded to him being in the game. He definitely passes the eye test for a QB.

Bachmier seems like he could be a good QB, but struggles in the game with bad throws and indecisiveness. (Which I don’t know if it’s the QB or the coach) He seems to want to hand off first, throw only when he has to approach to football.
Turner was noticeably more confident coming in the game and his passing was more consistent and decisive. (Which I don’t know it was out of necessity being down in the 4th or just his development is better)
I think you will have a better passing offense with Turner (but also probably more interceptions). I would let him start vs Nebraska this week to see what he could do because you have the built in excuse that Bachmier is recovering and it’s basically a money game anyway.

Re: North Texas Game - Sat Sept 16th - Red Out game
Has there been any official changes at LB yet? Some of the season starters (#9 and #21) have been mostly non-existant when they are in the game. At least LB's #3 and #6 seem a bit more active and engaged in the games. Of course we probably have a depth issue at LB so we there may not be many alternative options.

The LA Tech defense gave up 357 yds to UNT in the first half alone. That's an absurd number.......almost as if we were deliberately trying to see just how deep of a hole we could dig.
Furthermore:
- Against FIU, Tech went down 0-14 in the 1st quarter
- Against SMU, Tech went down 0-31 in the first half
- Against UNT, Tech trailed 3-21 early in the 2nd quarter, and 10-27 with 4 minutes left in the 2nd qtr.
Why can't we get a football team that plays the 1st half too?
It's obvious that this Tech football team has an immature head coach who is simply not ready for prime time. His self proclaimed "skateboarder" mentality doesn't seem to mix well with the discipline required to be a good football coach. He certainly hasn't learned how to prepare his teams to play a first half yet.
BTW, this team played much better after Hank Bachmeier left the game. If you don't believe me, just look at the stats.

Your point stands, but UNT score was 10-0 after the first quarter, and 23-14 at halftime.
If our offense could do anything in the first quarter, it wouldn’t be so difficult to win.

There was one play on the first set of downs (I believe) that Hank threw a 30 yard strike to #34 over the middle, and he hit him right between the numbers. Dropped. Other than that one play, the offense was absolutely abysmal looking in the first quarter. I’ve seen many many high school offenses that looked more organized and prepared.

You nailed it with the “skateboarder mentality” thing. I hadn’t thought how to say it, but that’s it. Football is a tough minded competition of desire and tenacity against your opponent’s capabilities of which Tech is severely lacking. Cumbie comes across as a nice guy who is too nice to demand results.

Did other coaches only pick alumni of their current employer? Thats a personal question, not a business one.
His game-time decisions and coaching are the issue, not his favorite band.

There always seems to be a guy that misses the point.
It was really a missed opportunity.
IMO, his answer tells you a lot about his personality and his character.....and his lack of business savy. Crummy is in the ULTIMATE "sales job" role. He needs to be selling recruits, players, fans, sponsors, other school leaders and supporters on "success" and future results, especially because he's not getting 'em right now. Of course, if I have to explain all that to ya, well.....just keep doing what you're doing, because it's working so well. :icon_roll:

See, you're wrong again. It matters to me, and last time I checked, I am part of the crowd a/k/a "anyone". Furthermore, I did say in my message "IMO" etc.... ;)
I get the fact that there's a lot of "engineering" mentality in the fanbase of our school, but please try to see and understand the marketing opportunities our school has to try to capitalize on when it can. This was a missed one IN MY OPINION. :D
