I'll admit that there have been cases of out-and-out work neglect on my part because of this place. I've since nipped that in the bud, but it was bad there for a while.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
As someone who has personally met Jenn Sterger, I can tell you that Tech does have better looking females than her. Sometimes, people just get lucky with a spotlight. She does deserve some credit for her marketing ability. For some people, that would have just been their 15 minutes of fame. She did very well turning her 15 minutes into $'s.

So you are saying, instead of 15 minutes, she gets $15?

LOL, not sure, but i don't think so. I've never had to pay tax putting money ON one, but you always pay tax for stuff, no matter if you pay cash or gift card.

No,
Example: I go to Home Depot, pay $25 only and recieve a plastic card.
Give plastic card to Bubba and he goes to Home Depot and buys a $23 pink flamingo to put in his yard. (Assume 7.5% sales tax) Cashier takes off $23 + $1.73(sales tax) and Bubba now has only 27 cents left on his card, in addition to a nice new pink flamingo in front of his double wide!

Surprisingly, though I'm an extremely frequent traveller, I've never been through LAX. If it's genuinely worse than Chicago, I'll have to go see that for myself. I guess I'm a masochist.
Denver's another fantastic airport.

I've been to O'Hare. LAX is a complete dump compared to O'Hare.
Here's what you can look forward to at LAX:
1. Waiting for at least an hour to check-in. My flight check-in was outside, in the LA heat/smog.
2. Concourses that are shoulder to shoulder with people who don't bathe.
3. Waiting approx. 3 hours for a rental car, again, with people that don't bathe.

Great advice. rule of thumb: If it's electronic, and it's over a thousand dollars, buy it (or build it) online. Or at least do your research. There are some extremely crappy electronics out there. newegg.com is your friend.
Wal-Mart's budget TVs are actually pretty good, though. Duraband puts out a mean 24 incher for like a hundred bucks.

Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? Sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here - the Dude from Los Angeles. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude. The Dude, from Los Angeles. And even if he's a lazy man - and the Dude was most certainly that. Quite possibly the laziest in all of Los Angeles County, which would place him high in the runnin' for laziest worldwide. Sometimes there's a man, sometimes, there's a man.
Wow, I lost my train of thought there.

I'm starting to feel that way. It used to be my favorite section to post on. Now I visit it every few days just to remind myself how much of a wasteland it is. My interest started to dwindle with being asked why it was bad to kill an infant. I find that and most of the recent discussion as intellectually stimulating as cold pea soup. I'm sure there's good stuff in there, just covered in so much bull crap, it's not worth digging out.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I like the political forum. I think it is a fairly good analogue for the general political debate in this country, so it helps keep me grounded in my belief that politics is useless. Useless, but often entertaining. The poster who called it "mental masturbation" was onto something. The whole enterprise of politics is pretty much just a different flavor of pornography--intense, sticky, and offering nothing noble to humankind.
Besides, if voting actually represented a real exercise of power the politicians would have outlawed it years ago.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I absolutely cannot f'ing stand it when people who did not continue an education after high school make any negative comment about my school. I love Louisiana Tech and I am thankful that I made the decision to enhance my education there. If you love your university and think it is better, that's one thing. But if the best you've got is high school, shut your mouth and be thankful there are people smart enough to make the world run for you. Then, as much as I hate that, it is even worse to find out these people didn't even graduate from their high school.
My education has opened doors for me to take things that are currently on the ground and put them into outer f'ing space. If you're living in some trailer park and fixing tires for money until you "hit it big time," keep your mouth shut about Tech.

Indeed they are! The Parent company is actually called "Brookshire Brothers", of which I have seen several here in houston. From I've been able to tell, Super 1 is to Brookshire's as Sam's Club is to Wal-Mart. (same company, cheaper prices)

Actually, that's not true. Brookshire's and Brookshire Brothers are related family member run storesbut not the same company. A big family fallout years and years ago created a divide that split the brothers. One brother ran with one area of Texas while the other, based here in Tyler, did his thing. Brookshire's HQ is here in Tyler and is the biggest and most successful of the two.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
There is a $20 charge for having a bag weigh more than 50lbs on an airplane. Passengers are limited to two free bags. So, each passenger is allowed 100lbs free to bring on the airplane. But, since I weigh 100lbs less than several of the passengers sitting on that very same flight, do they get charged more or am I allowed to bring heavier bags? Note, I'm not talking about fat people, but I only weigh 180lbs. There are lots of people who aren't "fat" that weigh much more than me.
Also, a lady on the plane flew with her infant. Does that infant count as a carry on? I think he should. I wouldn't want her carrying another bag, plus a personal item, plus the child.
And finally, that new "sniffer" located in airport security shouldn't just check for harmful chemicals, it should also check for smelly people. The dude I had to sit next to today had no business being around people in an enclosed space.

The last time I flew with an infant I had to pay for him. The fee, though, was similar to the fee for excess luggage.

Well, I don't have a problem with an infant flying. I would have a problem with someone trying to attend to an infant while carrying several other bags and going through the airport nonsense. Or maybe the nonsense is different when you have an infant, I dunno?
It seems to me that the best course of action is for people with infants to not travel and for everyone in the family to come visit YOU, but I do understand that's not always possible.

That's not even the whole of the story. The rest of it goes like this. The total bill was going to be around $260.00. So, trying to be diplomatic, I told him that I didn't take checks over $150 because my check verification service doesn't guarantee checks over that amount. He then suggested that he could write two checks.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Why do MLB stadia need jumbotrons if they are not going to show replays of notable plays?
Saw the Cards and Braves in the ESPN Sunday night game at Turner Field. What an awesome screen in center field by Mitsubishi Electric! but they only show great plays and only by the home team.
I had no interest in either team (other than Brave Willie Jones is a helluva lead-off man and LF). But when Jones just missed nabbing a home run by a Cardinal off the top yellow line, there was no replay.
Everybody watching Braves home games on TV and in-house TV at Turner Field may get to see ALL the replays, but the paying public misses out on half the great plays . . . the ones by the visitors.
Why have a jumbotron if you're going to snub the fan?
tm
PS-We've GOT to find places for those facade video boards that run the length of the sidelines!
